UK Charts 01/12/2014: Call Of Duty Advanced Warfare Regains First Place

Sales of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare are the largest ever for any title in a Black Friday week so the game has pounced back to the top of the UK charts, knocking last week’s Grand Theft Auto V back down to third.

I borrowed Advanced Warfare off hubby at the weekend and it’s very CoD, isn’t it? Lots of butchness and yet the coffee machines during the first sequence are still completely bullet proof, I know as I spent five minutes trying to damage one.

FIFA 15 scampers a few places up the charts to second place, helped by the weekend’s shopping madness which also boosts the sales of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (+353%) and Disney Infinity 2.0 (+140%). Super Smash Bros (+560%)  hops up fourteen places thanks the Wii U version but the clear winner of the week is the game that seems to have bust the UKIE calculator and had a ridiculous 999% sales increase, namely DriveClub.

Sony also bag the loser of the week with LittleBigPlanet 3 missing the top ten completely and landing at 18th position. The flood of new games and Black Friday deals have also done the unthinkable and knocked all the LEGO games down to the farthest reaches of the chart.

  1. Guess those Christmas bargains helped keep Smash out of the top ten, as Bayonetta 2 managed to chart higher in its first week.

Hopefully it’ll have a long shelf life though – it’s fantastic.

    • ALso places such as Game were selling Smash for £50 which, in my opinion, is ridiculous. Went in there fully prepared to buy it but left empty handed. Mario Kart 8 was also £50, and Watch Dogs Wii U was £55!!

      • The prime reason why I hardly end up buying things from the actual stores any more. GAME particularly seem to delight in offering games at a premium which shows me how little they’ve changed since going into administration all those years ago.

      • To be fair, its not unusual to see GAME ripping people off like that. Even their website is only £40. I bought it from CDKeys digitally for £35. All my Wii U games are digital so far.

      • Game have really taken the piss since the new gen launched. They don’t even try to be competitive, and when they inevitably go into administration again they can only blame themselves.

      • Madness, grabbed our copy for £33 online. The only time I ever buy something in-store, it’s usually pre-owned or on offer.

      • Unfortunately this has always been GAME’s stance; they seem to have always been and continue to be the store targeted at casuals and parents buying for their child who know no better. This is why I was so dismayed at GAME absorbing Gamestation as they were the better vendor and were more gamer centric. Shame they’ve gone.

Still, if GAME decided to stop being so Americanised in the UK and have 3 greeters and 2 people just standing round the store floor ‘to help’ they’d save a bundle and perhaps be able to drop their prices.

  2. Strange week with the charts, with Pokemon getting their biggest UK launch ever in terms of sales and yet finishing 6th and 7th, when X and Y charted 1st/2nd when they came out.

  3. Good to see there’s gonna be more people experiencing how good DriveClub is despite the online fiasco.
I’m guessing there’s still a lot of people holding out for the Plus version, so once this is released and people enjoy it I can see another surge in it’s sales. I’m going to treat myself to the Season Pass.

    • See, I’ve completed the single player as far as is possible (level 50, all cars etc.) and would like to see what the multiplayer has to offer.
Loaded the game today after a break and even before the the opening screen I was greeted by a ‘servers unavailable’ screen…I’ve lost patience with the total fucking shambles.
Next DLC pack should be called ‘DRIVE on my own CLUB’ so as not to breach fundamental sales descriptions.
Enjoyed the single player campaign btw ;)

      • Seems to work fine for me now apart from the challenges are still unavailable.
Saying than, I haven’t tried it today or raced online lately, hopefully they’re not having more server issues due to a 999% rise in players.

Finally managed to reach level 50 over the weekend, but I did notice you stop earning points which is a bit of a bummer.

      • Is it just me, or have they been decidedly quiet on progress since withholding the PS Plus version?

I have been quietly keeping an eye in case they have a revelation, as I would really like a decent driving game but I am not investing in a product that is not yet finished.

I’d like it to do well in spite of its problems, but at this rate, I’ll probably just end up getting the crew or something (providing that works of course!).

  4. I’m not surprised at LBP3, i see it as a near-essential game to have on PS4 but it’s going to have to wait while i gorge myself on the recent crop of new releases.
Nice to see Driveclub getting a boost, i think the new photomode screens that are being posted around the web (not mine obviously – i mean the good ones) may have whetted a few more people’s appetites.
