Bungie Extends Xur’s Stay In Destiny’s Tower Due To Network Outages

The big news over Christmas has been the problems faced by both PSN and Xbox LIVE due to certain elements of society finding joy in other people’s misery. As a result both services suffered outages so players couldn’t enjoy a lot of gaming elements associated with the internet, from multiplayer to digital downloads. One such game that was hugely affected by the issue due to being an online only affair is Bungie’s Destiny. To make things more annoying the downtime occurred around about the same time as the weekly arrival of Xur, the exotic items vendor.

However due to the network issues Bungie has decided to extend Xur’s stay in the Tower, right up until 10pm PST Monday, which is 6am Tuesday morning in the UK. A full statement was released by the developer through the Destiny forums.

Hey, Destiny Community.

We understand that Xur has been hard to reach for a lot of you this weekend, so we’re going to extend his stay. Our current plan is to allow him to remain in the Tower with his current inventory until Monday night at 10pm PST, just before the weekly reset. We’ll also keep an eye on the overall situation, and prolong the extension, as needed, for as long as is feasible.

Next week, Xur will return to his regular schedule, with refreshed inventory.

Thank you for your patience!

  1. I still can’t connect on the ps4.

    • There’s a fix for it. Check the last image I tweeted on Twitter @onlytonyc

      • Any chance you can post it as an imagur for those of us without Twitter?

      • How to connect to the PSN: http://www.reddit.com/r/PS4/comments/2qkxow/i_managed_to_sign_in_some_people_say_this_method/

And you don’t need Twitter to view most profiles on Twitter, you just go to their profile, eg. Twitter.com/colmshan1990.

      • And checking that link now, it’s been removed for some reason.

To summarise, what you have to do is customise your Wifi or LAN connection settings- leave every setting as default except MTU, which you change from 1500 to 1476. This will allow you to connect to the PSN.

      • Legend, cheers!

  2. Getting more adamant that u don’t want to buy the dlc due to their snide tactics. Xur’s weapon this week requires the dlc, so if you don’t have it, you can’t buy an exotic weapon. Yet another example of locking their players out of content, trying to hold us to ransom.

    • Are you sure? I thought anyone could access the new weapons unless they’re locked to the new levels? Or does that not apply to exotics? I can’t tell as I have the DLC.

      • Yep, I tried to buy it, it took me to the page about dlc. Dark below is one of the requirements for the weapon.

  3. Ah that sucks! Locking out dailies/weeklies alone was bad enough. They should have added new purchasable exotics through Eris as a vendor or new exotic bounties. I can’t believe it wasn’t considered. Poor form.

    • Bugger, meant to reply to Tony
