Are Raven Software Returning To Singularity? Probably Not.

Well here is some news you were not expecting, it appears Raven software are teasing a return to Kortaga 12, the island setting for the 2010 game Singularity, tweeting “We’re going back.”

It’s a surprise because despite being a pretty decent game, Singularity was one of many titles of that era that Activision barely promoted. However, those who played the game really liked it (myself included) and a WeView for the title resulted in every single person suggesting you buy the game.

Raven are still owned by Activision but suffered huge staff cut backs after Singularity failed to set the world on fire, and have since been relegated to helping out on Call of Duty.

Now I admit I got all excited and wrote loads of lovely words about a sequel or a HD remake which I have now deleted as I’ve just noticed this…

The #RVN25 tag has been used by the developer to promote Twitch streams of their games. This may just be an advert for that, it does seem rather implausible that they are resurrecting a five year old game that barely sold with small development team.

Let us hope that, just this once, I’m wrong.

  1. This is one title that some how passed me by and I was looking to pick it up on PS3 so from that point of view a remastered release on PS4 would be great… however unlikely given its relatively poor sales and development hell.

But seriously, enough with the frigging remasters! I’d much rather see new games and IPs rather than slightly higher res texture and/or frame rate versions of titles that aren’t even that old in most cases.

  2. I enjoyed Singularity, got it cheap and didn’t expect too much so was pleasantly surprised.

  3. Oh Singularity was such a good game, with a great story and surprisingly fun multiplayer. Needs a sequel.

  4. I really enjoyed it, such a shame it didn’t do well (admittedly I bought it second-hand years after) because I’d love a sequel.

  5. Brilliant game. Enjoyable campaign with fun multiplayer. I’m not too sure if the mp is still going though….

  6. Its a shame because anything else Activision puts out is badly designed and obviously a cash in of various licenses.

  7. The annoyance with this one is that it was a damn good game that Activision saw fit not to promote for whatever reason. I have no doubt in my mind that it would have done a hell of a lot better if they had actually thrown a cent of advertising budget at it, rather than choosing to advertise a game that everyone knew was coming & most that would be interested were likely going to buy anyway.

If a sequel were announced, I know that myself & a few others would be all over it. The multiplayer would need to work better in general, but the concept was solid, so with better net/matchmaking code it could be a belter.

    • Totes agree. It was one of those games I chanced upon and was blown away by the quality, story and gameplay. Up there (nearly) with Bioshock and that’s high praise indeed. The combat was fabulous fun and I’d be all over a sequel too but sadly likely won’t happen. Be interesting to see what Raven come up with next though.
