Batman: Arkham Knight To Take Up 49GB On PS4

It may be time to get to managing your game library because a screenshot has confirmed that Batman: Arkham Knight will use 48.7GB of your PS4 hard drive. This will make it bigger than Grand Theft Auto V, which takes up a measly 41.8GB in comparison.

The large size is likely indicative of how big Gotham will be. We are going to need plenty of room to manoeuvre with the Batmobile after all. There is no information on the install size of the Xbox One version of the game but expect it to be somewhere in the same region.

If the install size is a blow to PS4 owners, they can rejoice in knowing that some of the DLC for the game will be exclusive for the console until ‘at least Fall 2015’. An image on Amazon seems to have confirmed that the Scarecrow Nightmare missions, the Justice League 3000 and Classic TV Series Batman costumes, and the Classic TV Batmobile skin will be exclusive to the console for a limited period.

  1. More like time for a new hard drive, just installed Bloodbourne and Alien Isolation and needed to delete stuff! I guess they’re only going to be getting bigger too as time goes on.

  2. Holy gigabyte Batman….. I must use Elder Scrolls Online Repellent spray! (Yes I know Batman was delayed until end of June and Skyrim is on the 9th June….)
Alot of folks on my twitter feed have upgraded their HDD and I am the only one without the upgrade xD
I decided to play just one game start to finish then delete it and install the next new game. Screenshots and videos are being transferred to my External HDD

  3. I hope Sony will start doing 1TB models of the PS4 as i do not fancy paying £300+ for a PS4 with a small harddrive and won’t last a year due to the size of new releases. I never thought i would end up considering 500GB to be a small hard drive. I feel a bit old now.

As for Batman, it’s Rocksteady, it looks excellent and will be on my Batlist of Batgames to get on my Batstation when i get my Batcash for it to buy with my Bat Credit Card.

  4. There’s already a few games out that take up more space than this. NBA 2K15, CoD: Ghosts and Assassin’s Creed Unity take up 54GB each! Madness.

  5. I’ve clearly missed why installs are so stupidly huge this time round. I’ve ran out of space in 3 months of owning a ps4 ona 500gb. I don’t want to delete anything because last time I did that, the game was removed from the store and I was buggered for about a year before it came back. Thing is, I can’t see a 1Tb lasting much longer either and I don’t want to be told by my ISP that I’m using too much data to keep re-downloading patches etc. It’s all very annoying for a collector, not a play and deleter/seller

    • It shouldn’t matter if its been removed from the store. You should still be able to get it from your download list

      • It was removed from my download list too. That’s what angered me.

  6. But how much of that is prerendered video and different languages? There should be optional installs for languages at least.

  7. The problem is, people dont want to pay more than £350 for a new console. Some people, even less. We could have had a more powerful console with a bigger hard drive but it would have come at a cost and it wasn’t a risk Sony could or should have to make. Both Sony and MS cut costs where they could to make a console that’s cheap enough for the GP to get on board. They aren’t going to pay more than they want to even if it’s a better product. As evidenced with the PS3 and the original XB1 with Kinect. And yet people are more than willing to spend £500-600 on the latest ipad/iphone/applewatch. Go figure.

    • It’s simple enough to have a 500GB model and a 1TB or 2TB model for £100 more. Only costs a small amount for Sony to do on the production line and those larger HDDs don’t cost anything like that, so it’s printing money from those that don’t want to mess about with replacing HDDs. It’s the same upsell that you have with tablets, phones and everything else.

      • But they made the HDD user upgradeable, how much more can we ask? If they sold a 2TB model people would do the maths and then bitch about the mark-up!
Who can genuinely tell me that upgrading the HDD is too hard?

  8. I think that I will upgrade HDD after the summer, but the question is, Do I go for 2TB or a 1TB hybrid drive. Is there much performance benefit on the hybrid drives?
