Hot on the heels of an official release date of May 19th for the House of Wolves DLC pack and the reveal of the story prologue video, Bungie have spoken up about some of the features that will be included in the expansion and when we can expect to hear more details about them. But there’s one point which will be sorely disappointing for the many fans that have poured hundreds of hours into the game with friends, and that is the lack of a third raid.
“House of Wolves will not have a Raid activity,” they stated in a blog update. “We didn’t make this decision lightly. Our team has been humbled by the reception of Raids in Destiny and we are creating a new Raid for a release later this year. House of Wolves will have a new cooperative end game activity focused on variety, replayability, and skill – a new battle Arena called The Prison of Elders.”
We can expect to hear more about the new Prison of Elders mode on May 6th, but it is known to be a three player co-op arena, and sounds an awful lot like a form of horde mode. Between now and the, we can expect to hear about the upgrade path of existing gear (with a tantalising image of a Fatebringer hand cannon alongside a new maximum damage value of 365), and April 29th will show off the Trials of Osiris and new end game gear.
Needless to say, House of Wolves will now have an uphill struggle to prove itself in the eyes of fans, with the raids having previously been a key draw to the game after months of playing. Will the Prison of Elders be enough to keep you invested in the game or bring you back?
I’m just gutted that we don’t get to face off against a gigantic 100:1 scale Shank as the final raid boss…

I can’t help but think they’ve messed up massively with this. The community on the bungie forums and reddit are fuming. I reckon they just didn’t have time to complete the raid, so rather than delay HoW again they’re releasing it without one. It’s all kind of shocking really, they’re basically sticking a finger up to their most dedicated players and trying to appease the casuals instead. Poor show.

The only thing going for Destiny at this stage is the raids and the lack of one in HOW is actually shocking! Are they asking for the same price as the DB expansion? I hope not. I am actually glad i pulled myself out of Bungies circle of grindcore, it bloody burned me out.
Also they are certinally getting their milage out of the Cosmodrome map!

Yep, HoW will be £20 like the last one (which I think also equates to $20 & 20€ in other territories).
Not a fan of this news. At all. Raids are pretty much now the only thing keeping me playing this game now that I have nearly all the exotic weapons & armour & as far as I am aware, no-one was asking for a horde mode. At least not in place of a raid anyway.
I am especially confused by the statement of “Our team has been humbled by the reception of Raids in Destiny”– That to me just sounds like they have pandered to those whiners who couldn’t be bothered communicating with people to actually build a raid team & decided the best plan of action is not to put one in at all.
Well done Bungie – Through the extended delay of this DLC & now lack of raid, I am pretty certain you have now killed the game almost entirely.
