Far too often, games put you in the well worn boots of heroes, sending you out into the world to do battle with the forces of evil. Sometimes it’s just that little bit more fun to be the bad guy, and after six years since the last game, Codemasters have announced that you’ll get to bash in a few heads as a Netherghūl, in lieu of the eponymous Overlord in Overlord: Fellowship of Evil set for digital release on PS4, Xbox One and PC later this year.
Making a step up from Overlord 2, this game’s set to feature four player local and online co-op, rather than just two players, while Gnarl – voiced once more by Marc Silk – is on hand to guide you through the Trials of Evil and send minions for you to command and fight alongside your band evil doers.
Another high point is the continuing involvement of Rhianna Pratchett, the award winning scriptwriter from games including Tomb Raider, Heavenly Sword and, of course, the previous games as well. So even as the game looks to take on a more immediate feel with more accessible action, you can bet there’ll be some great writing backing it all up. “And don’t worry, there will be sheepies,” she said in the press release. “We have plans for them. Oh yes!”
Alongside the announcement trailer, we also have the first developer blog, giving you a bit of a look into where the new game is heading.

oh, that’s not exactly what i was hoping for from a new Overlord game.
i enjoy a good twin stick shooter, but that’s not what i expect from an Overlord game.
honestly, give me a version of Overlord two without that frakking spider temple lift, and i’d be happy.
that point was the last time i played an Overlord game.
that mix of Pickmin and Fable made for a fantastic game, apart from the lift i mentioned.
this however, i’m not so sure about.

I think you’ve misinterpreted a Diablo-esque camera angle rather than a fixed third person camera for a dramatic genre shift. It’s still an action RPG, but those Pikmin-esque elements might be toned down and the action side of things ramped up.

Just to throw my hat into the ring, I can’t say that I am a fan of the new viewpoint/camera either.
Was much happier with the camera from Overlord 2, with it being behind the overlord, because as backwards as it sounds, you could actually see more of what was going on.

Whilst i dare not play the video to avoid my laptop overheating, i am a bit concerned about what i am hearing. If they are going for a top down view, it could lessen the impact of being the Sauron of erm…. whatever realm Overlord 3 features. However, it could give them the freedom to improve the clunky combat and turn a rather limited overlord into “ARGH! OVERLORD! HE JUST PUNCHED OUT ALL OF MY BLOOD!”. Or Kratos on steroids whilst high on speed after downing an entire jar of protein powder followed by an entire country’s worth of bacon.
I may have gotten a bit carried away but hey, i managed to slip in Bacon into it.
