The Assassin’s Creed Movie Starts Filming This September

The producer and star of the Assassin’s Creed movie, Michael Fassbender, has spoken briefly about the time it has taken to get the movie off the ground.

“It just takes time to get a good story together and we really want to do it right,” he told ComingSoon.net, “It’s exciting. It’s going to start this year, we’ll be filming in September.”

“That’s always the challenge of something that’s so dense,” he added, referring to the many characters and timelines in the series. “To really find something and pare it down and basically, there are so many elements to it, so trying to translate that to an audience, you have to pick key things. So yes, that is part of it, getting through the density of it and paring down and engaging a simple story.”

Describing the process as “all new to me”, Fassbender was cautious not to reveal which character he would be playing.

“You don’t know that,” he countered when it was suggested he would be playing Desmond Miles. “Don’t listen to what they tell you, that’s the first rule,” he added.

Ubisoft Motion Pictures CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet has stated that none of Ubisoft’s film adaptations will follow the same plot as their respective games, so the Fassbender may be playing a completely new character.

Marion Cotillard is set to co-star in the film, which currently has a release date of December 2016.

  1. Looking forward to this, fingers crossed it doesn’t go down the route of most game to film adaptions

A wise move, and as a result, I’m a lot more hopeful the film will good.

    • See, I was hoping they’d do a movie of The Secret Crusade and follow Altair’s life, wrapping up all the games. Or possibly following Ezio through his ones.

Either way, I’m hoping it’s good!

  3. An important milestone.

  4. Oh god, please not a Desmond Film as we had the AC 1 and 2 Saga dealing with him and his story is all wrapped up. That and he is a tad bit boring.

A massive part of me believes this will be medicore at best but a small part of me has a bit of hope that it won’t be a giant pile of eagle poo that uses the “Sod it, X is rambo. Screw you, this is our version of it.” like a certain film based on a certain franchise based on an assassain.

    • Actually, a film centred around Desmond probably makes the most sense to me – That way you can tap into at least 3 of the timelines seen in the games. Familiarity for gamers that have played them & a general introduction to what is found in the games for those that haven’t.

Don’t forget that a film is made for the masses & probably most of who this film would be aimed at wouldn’t necessarily have played the games.
