The Banjo-Kazooie Spiritual Successor Is Called Yooka-Laylee

Playtonic Games have revealed the first details of their colourful new platformer, including what the main protagonists will look like.

Much like the Rare game from which this draws inspiration, the title of the game is made up of the character names. Yooka is the chameleon and Laylee is the bat, if the dynamic of the duo looks familiar to you it is because the characters have been created by Steve Mayles, who also created Banjo and Kazooie and also the recent Donkey Kong family.

Each character will have unique abilities to use whilst traversing the environment, Yooka, being a chameleon, can use his tongue like a grappling hook. Laylee, much like Kazooie, can pick up Yooka and fly for a short while and can also unleash a sonar blast. There will be more moves revealed as the game goes on.

The kickstarter campaign for the game will go live today at 5pm UK time and will reveal more details of the game. Backers will be able to get a copy of the game for £10/$15, the intention is for the game to come to PC, PS4, Xbox One and Wii U. The exact timing of the releases will be dependant on the success of the campaign and its stretch goals.

  1. They’re not even being subtle about it being a successor to Banjo-Kazooie. At all.

But I’m not complaining, I’d love a new 3D platformer.

  2. I miss Banjo-Kazooie, can only pray this is the sequel to tooie which i never got to play.

Thank god its coming out on all platforms and the Logo is even the same for it, bringing back memories already :)

  3. I haven’t played Banjo-Kazooie but i do like platformers. It looks very cute though so hopefully it’s not just a game for the kiddies.
