NIS America has announced that the next entry in the Danganronpa series will be released in North America on 1st September, with Europe getting the game a few days later on 4th September. This instalment in the bizarre series will be a spin-off of sorts, in that the title will focus more on action rather than text-reading.
The story focusses on two characters who are trying to escape from Towa City which has been taken over by a group of children calling themselves the Warriors of Hope. Their vision is that the city will become a Children’s Paradise and to do this, all adults must be eradicated. Their weapon against the grown ups are hundreds of Monokumas, the teddy bear mascot of the series, who are rampaging across the city doing their masters bidding.
In a first for the game, there will be third-person shooter sequences where your character has to fight against the hordes of Monokumas. There will also be various types of ammo available throughout the game, including Paralyse bullets to help players make their way through these sections. Although there will be more action than in previous titles, there will still be puzzle elements to the game with NIS saying that players will “need smarts to survive”.
It remains to be seen whether fans of the previous instalments receive the slight change in direction with as much warmth as the original titles. However, I’m sure Vita owners will always welcome a new title for the machine with open arms.
