Community Round-Up: 18/07/15

Even though I hadn’t played Laser Quest in well over a decade, I found I was a surprisingly good shot earlier this week when we did it for a work social. Perhaps it’s all those hours playing GTA that are finally paying off, or maybe it’s because my co-workers were simply terrible, who knows?

Knowing deep down in my heart it was probably the later (they were truly abysmal!), let’s make a start with this week’s Community Round-Up!

Looking at the Meets, chances are that Monday will see the and F1 2015 meet, with the odd sprinkling of Rocket League and the odd GTA V Heists meet sprinkled throughout the week.

If you’d rather play something else, you can add your own Meet to the list, provided you have more than 250 TSA Points.

Starting with the previews, and though there was the sad news of Satoru Iwata’s death, Nintendo fans were treated to The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes, and Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, which are worth a read if you fancy some multiplayer madness or some Mario-mashup.

It was also a pleasant surprise to look back on how many reviews we had this week. In first place was F1 2015, although it isn’t the F1 game we were hoping it to be, hence its 7/10 score. Instead, it seems to be a solid foundation which Codemasters can build on, as while it feels quite polished, it certainly feels a tad bare. Also on a 7/10 was Astebreed, a mecha-style shoot ’em up, with “lovely graphics” and a “marvelous soundtrack”, says Dom.

Dropping to a 5/10 was Godzilla, a game where the main draw is that you are a giant lizard destroying a city (obviously), but that’s about it sadly. At the bottom of the pile this week was Cast of the Severn Godsends, which it sounds like only fans of Capcom’s Ghouls n’ Ghosts could possibly enjoy, and that might be pushing it, as it lies on a 4/10.

Although not a full review, Dom gave us his first impressions of Rory McIlroy PGA Tour 2015. At its heart, it’s compelling and addictive, which could also be used to describe the latest Trials Fusion DLC, which Stefan enjoyed. Stefan was also on hand for yesterday’s release of the God of War 3 Remaster on PS4, and Blair looked at the Batgirl DLC for Batman Arkham Knight.

Our Mobile Watch this week featured Heroki, while Dave explored the depiction of religion and mythology in videogames.

The Chronicle chatted about PSN Downtime, No Man’s Sky and Grip, plus all your usual achievements. Meanwhile, Battlefield Hardline is the new WeView game taking over after Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel’s mediocre Verdict.

Rounding up as we always do, Episode 185 of the Podcast featured special guest and game developer, James Parker while What We Played #212 has everything the gang have been up to this week.

The Forums are once again looking quite quiet…

Well, that was your weekly Round Up, but come back next week for more – bye!
