[UPDATE] Vote To Play Will Let You Decide What’s In The Next PS Plus Update

Almost every PlayStation Plus update is met with people complaining that they’ve already got the games being added to the Instant Game Collection, or that they simply don’t interest them in the slightest. That’s all about to change, with a new Vote to Play scheme set to put those decisions into the hands of the community.

Spotted by eagle-eyed NeoGAF user El_Cinefilo in the What’s New section of the PS4’s menu – though I cannot personally find it on my PS4 and VG247 are reporting it has now been removed – there’s a video outlining the upcoming system. Though not giving you free reign to choose, it will let you pick between three potential games for the IGC, with the game receiving the most votes then set to be part of the service, while the two losers will be discounted instead.

Interestingly, the three games in the example are Zombie Vikings, Armello and Grow Home, which is as yet not been announced for PS4 by Ubisoft. Of course, one of the biggest complaints is that, while the service during its early years would consistently feature relatively recent AAA games, there’s been a dearth of blockbusting titles in the PS4’s IGC. Will Vote to Play come to change all of that?

UPDATE: Sony have now officially revealed the Vote to Play scheme and confirmed the game with the most votes will be free on PlayStation Plus with the other two games being discounted. However this will not be a monthly vote.

“To be clear, Vote to Play will not be a monthly feature, but will take place at regular intervals throughout the year,” posted the PlayStation Blog.

  1. Can I complain about this? I was perfectly happy with the game offerings before as I felt that a big, exciting AAA come along just often enough and most months there have been at least two games I’ve wanted to play. Now there’s going to be a voting system I might miss out of the niche (or as others might put it ‘crap’) type of games I’ve enjoyed before, because I’ll simply be outvoted. Democracy sucks!

    • Oh wait, I’ve just read the update, yay for forced offerings most of the time! Yay for dictatorships!

  2. I prefer the system as it is now, otherwise I would never had played the likes of olli olli 2 or the binding of Isaac which got me pretty hooked for a while

    • Arrgghh! Olli Olli 2 and those terrible controls. Would crap like that get through this voting system or not though?

    • I agree. The same people who complain about the games every month will still complain when their game doesn’t get the most votes. And then there will be comments about people who complain about people complaining. And people who complain about people who complain about people complaining. And before you know it no one will know what the hell they were complaining about or even why they were here in the first place.

Glad this isn’t going to be a monthly thing.
