Metal Gear Online Delayed Until October

Konami have posted a note that explains that the online component of Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain, the much snappier titled Metal Gear Online, will not be available at launch. PC owners, who recently had their version of the game moved up to launch with PlayStation and Xbox versions are in for an even longer wait.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain also features the dedicated squad-based competitive multiplayer component, Metal Gear Online. Newly redesigned with the familiar gameplay and aesthetic styling of the acclaimed series, Metal Gear Online introduces Tactical Team Operations and features a ‘class system’ that more uniquely defines the strengths and abilities of player characters on the battlefield. As a result of the updated timing, console versions of Metal Gear Online will go live on October 6th, with the PC version set to release in January 2016.

“As a result of the updated timing” suggests that the push to get the PC version of the game out has had a detrimental effect on the final stages of Metal Gear Online.

  1. Disappointing news, but since this sort of thing is now normal maybe my expectation of a finished game on release day is unreasonable? I don’t mean to be sarcastic, I actually don’t mind really, like GTA this’ll give me unadultared time to play the story through, I’m just thinking maybe my standards are a bit old fashioned.

    • I just don’t buy games at launch anymore. That way I usually get the complete experience when I do buy the game.
