The Destiny Crucible Preview Event Starts Next Week

Bungie are to tempt Destiny players in to purchasing The Taken King by holding a special Crucible preview event from September 8th to September 14th.

All Destiny players – not just those who have pre-ordered The Taken King – will be able to play new modes on all of the new Crucible maps that will ship with The Taken King.

“This is your chance to try before you buy – or download,” say Bungie. “Think of it as your own personal E3 or gamescom, only it happens at home on your couch.”

  1. Im pretty excited for TTK. Ive managed to stick to reading about the expansion and not watching any footage so far so that i dont spoil anything! The Crucible preview is a great idea and shows they’ve got confidence in the expansion. In optimistic of good reviews mixed with a 6.5 from Polygon!

    • More like they are concerned about uptake due to price/content etc & are trying to get as many people back on board as possible.

Personally, I don’t think a crucible event is the way to do that. Previews of the levels they are adding, sure, but this certainly wouldn’t tempt me back in.

  2. Still not interested. If they ever care adding a decent story as a DLC, please let me know.

    • There is a pretty big focus on story this time around, going as far as reworking the entire existing story to create a more cohesive story leading up to the TTK portion. Whether this works, or is enough to justify the price tag, will be seen when it is released. They are definitely aware of the whole lack of decent story issue that has plagued the main game and seem to be taking steps to rectify it.

      • I didn’t know they had any plans to make a more cohesive story at all tbh – I know that they are changing the voiceover from Dinklebot to Northbot so that the ghost is the same all the way through from being woken all the way through TTK (possibly including bits for TDB & HOW), but as far as I was aware, the bits of story that were seemingly missing were missing sort of deliberately as one of the writers left & refused them permission to use his work. At least if I recall correctly (which it is possible I may not!).

Whether they are adding new stuff in though, I don’t know. Haven’t heard as much though.

      • Ok, thanks for the info, I’ll keep an eye on it. Hope they realised this probably kept a few people off their game.
