It’s time for the Italian Grand Prix, as this post goes live today, with a potentially very exciting race start ahead of us. Can the two Ferraris beat Hamilton into the first corner, or will he do the thing we’ve seen so often over the last six months and just disappear off into the distance?
I, and many Italians, hope it’s the former scenario. It’d be much more interesting, at least.
The increase to 10GB of cloud storage announced for the PlayStation 4’s upcoming firmware 3.0 update was welcomed with open arms around these parts. However, the other changes were met with an air of indifference.
Sitorimon chimed in with, “So delighted to see more cloud storage, I was way over that for game saves and finally I can now just upload everything and not be scared for a light of death! Also, yay for YouTube gaming – I really enjoyed streaming my PS1/2 games on there last week and plan to do a lot more of that in future.
Lyts1985 said, “The cloud storage increase is welcome and long overdue – been up to the limit for quite some time so I’ve had to backup to USB. Other than that, seems like a pretty pointless, uninteresting update…”
Though replying to DJ Judas, Bunimomike’s response applies equally to Lyts’ thoughts, as he said, “Never underestimate the social side of things, fella. I did and had to get used to how well handled it all needs to be. Some of the features (above) will have taken quite a bit of time to code, simply because of all the options it needs to allow for.”
There are already people in the 3.0 beta who are testing out the communal side of these new additions, that’s for sure.
Uncharted 4’s delay to 2016 was a disappointment, a few months back, but as Sony revealed a March 18th release date, they also let slip about single player DLC being included in a season pass.
Announcing it at this point seemed to put a few noses out of joint though. “Nothing like announcing DLC for a game that’s still over 6 months away,” CrawFail said. “It’s always a dick move in my opinion. Still getting the game though.”
Again, Bunimomike appeared with a level head, and said, “I’m lost as to why people are so upset at the DLC being announced early on. I understand how other devs have screwed things up but Naughty Dog gave us Left Behind. If Naughty Dog want to dive into a tangential story (in Uncharted) as development continues, then so be it.”
There were other comments surrounding it, but I feel that something very important to remember is that Left Behind was developed entirely after The Last of Us was released. We don’t even have a remote timescale for this UC4 DLC to be released, and it’s quite likely that all there is that really exists of it at this time is an entry on a to-do list and a link to some Drake and Sully hook up fan fiction.
Of course, TSBonyman gets the best deal, as he noted that this was “a reason to be cheerful on ‘What age am I now and how the hell did that happen!?’-day.”
Finally, this week saw the Gran Turismo 6 sales figures revealed, by way of some court documents. The game launched on PS3 after the PS4 came out, and perhaps as a consequence of this has only managed to sell 2.37 million copies.
“It was an odd decision, given that they must have known PS4 was on the way,” TSBonyman said. “I’m sure many people would have been pleased to see it on PS4, but personally I’ve had more enjoyment from Driveclub than I’ve had with the entire GT series to date.”
Though I’d disagree that 3 years was “relatively soon”, beeje13 saw other mitigating circumstances hampering its release.
It released relatively soon after GT5, had bad PR from microtransactions If I remember. Also I remember people saying that GT5 was better.
And B-spec wasn’t there at launch.
I’m confident GT7 will deliver.
Andrewww held some similarly strong opinions. “I don’t usually enjoy other’s failures,” he said, “but I can’t help thinking it serves them right.”
“They switched off online support for a huge user base of GT5 so quickly, only to sell their badly timed GT6. At least the shot their own foot too.”
Again, there were 3.5 years of online servers for Gran Turismo 5, with them being shut off roughly half a year after GT6’s launch. Though disappointing to see them turned off, and especially for such a big game, that’s a damn sight longer than a lot of online games manage to get!
It’s been an odd little week, as despite a number of you having games like Until Dawn and Metal Gear Solid V to play, The Witcher 3 still seems to be in a lot of people’s drives. Clearly Geralt’s silvery hair is much appealing to look at than Snake’s mullet…
However, DividSmythe rather enjoyed his time with Teslagrad, on his way to the game’s platinum trophy. CR8ZYH0RSE also managed to grab the platinum from Diablo 3 on PS3, and while he’s bored of the game, he’s feeling tempted to buy the game again on PS4, just to import the save and get another quick platinum trophy… He’s nuts, I tell you.
R1MJAW is on the cusp of completing a “TVHM” run through of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, but Carrot381, after being so positive that he would complete the trophy list in Fat Princess has discovered that he needs another 275 “match 5” award for the last trophy. So he’s moved on to LEGO Jurassic World instead.
As for myself, thanks to prior knowledge, I’ve been able to blaze my way through the first parts of Metal Gear Solid V – a game which has been on many people’s play lists. It meant that I unlocked Quiet as a battlefield buddy after just eight hours, and have fully upgraded my Fulton in under ten hours.
I’m now in the process of stealing everything that isn’t bolted to the ground.
A inferior race is back this week with the latest update to the 2015 trophy leaderboard. Head over to page 2 to see what it’s all about and how you can be counted.
Aside from that, I leave you on this page with the usual submission form.

It’s always better when there’s some post-race drama too!
