A Just Cause Movie Is About To Enter Production

Yes, it is real.

Movies based on games aren’t a strange thing and have even generated at least one successful franchise in the form of the Resident Evil films, but every so often an announcement is made that makes you raise your eyebrows just a bit. The most recent movie based on game announcement comes in the form of Just Cause, which will take cues from the Just Cause 3 plot. You may know the Just Cause games as huge playgrounds of destruction where the story is very much not the focal point, while blowing stuff up in creative ways is.

The movie’s producer, Adrian Askarieh, spoke to IGN about the project.

“Just Cause 3 has a terrific story. It has Rico going back to Medici, the place of his birth and then subsequent displacement, and the murder of his family. And he goes back there to do what he does best which is to discombobulate regimes. I’ve always loved the story of the Scorpion, because I haven’t seen a movie about a guy you send in to tear people apart from within.

That to me is a cool story and the whole concept of a guy who is sent in to discombobulate from within and to create chaos from within. And in terms of action, I think Just Cause has just as much right to be called an action movie as The Fast and Furious. They’re both outlandish.”

Adrian Askarieh doesn’t have the most extensive list in film, having worked as a producer on both Hitman movies. He is also working on a Kane and Lynch movie. It seems he is Square Enix’s go to movie guy, so who knows? Maybe in the future he’ll make a new Tomb Raider movie too.

  1. There’s a lot of movies based on games being made lately.

I seem to be in the minority thinking that the Final Fantasy movie was pretty good.

  2. “discombobulate”

You keep using that word. I don’t think it means what you think it means.
