What We Played #222: Destiny, Cities: Skylines & PES 16

Another wonderful week here at TSA towers is drawing to an end, which means it’s time for another edition of What We Played. It was a bit of light week for our gaming schedule but that’s certainly not going to stop us from telling you all about what we did manage to play.

Dave starts us off this week with Zelda Tri Force Heroes as he’s been getting in a bit of multiplayer with other staffers, but that pesky embargo is keeping us from sharing any details. He’s also been getting his weekly scare with Project Zero: Maiden of the Black Water, and he managed more time for Hearthstone, hitting level 20 for the month.

Dom began his week with Blood Bowl 2, which he says is quite good so far, and he’s been brushing up on his Halo prior to the launch of Halo 5 next month. He also found time for Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, Rainbow Moon, Etrian Mystery Dungeon, and LEGO Marvel Superheroes. Finally, he grabbed a 2TB drive for use with his PS4, but said he ended up using it with his Xbox One, which wasn’t a big deal since the drives on both consoles were full.

Neither Aran or Tuffcub had much to report this week, but Aran is currently working with PES 16 for review and he wrote this nice piece on The Book Of Unwritten Tales 2 on PS4, while Tuffcub was mostly stuck with Destiny, and Geometry Wars 3 on Vita. Oh, and don’t forget to read Tuffcub’s review for SOMA that went live a few days ago.

Stefan had a busy week on the site starting with the preview he wrote up for Sublevel Zero. He also played a bit more of Destiny’s newest expansion and wrote up a review for it. He also spent time with a new add-on for Cities: Skylines and wrote up a nice piece, and he got back in touch with his inner child  by playing with LEGO Dimensions. Finally, he put together a lovely preview for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, and he published an interview he recently conducted with a couple of the guys currently working on Total War: Warhammer.

Mark mostly spent his time with Destiny this week, as he’s working his way through the first two expansions before tackling The Taken King. He said he’s loving some of the new changes Bungie made, and he’s quite fond of the new ranking system that doesn’t involve light stats.

Elsewhere, Jim has dedicated his week to the ever-expanding “Toys to Life” genre. Starting with Disney Infinity 3.0, he’s now moved onto this year’s instalment of Skylanders, the racing-focused SuperChargers. So far, it’s shaping up to be the best, most diverse game in the franchise, juxtaposing combat and adventuring with arcade races.

As for me, I kept going through Mad Max, which paired nicely with watching the original movie again for the first time in ages. Though, I have to admit that the movie hasn’t aged very well. I also went back to Grand Theft Auto V for the first time in many months, and had a good time just messing about in multiplayer with a friend while causing unreasonable amounts of destruction and mayhem.

So that’s out story for the week. Now how about you? Any recent success stories to share? Have you shattered any controllers or kicked your telly out of frustration in the past week? If so, let us hear all about it, and if not, still tell us what you’ve been playing and how you’re getting along.

  1. Finished all contracts in Witcher 3, moved on to the main storyline, which really got quite epic after the Isle of mists. Liked that bit a lot.
However, now I seem to have messed up with Triss and Yen, which is a shame…

  2. Mad Max and nothing but. It’s all very basic stuff but most importantly it does everything well. While the story is a little lacklustre (albeit servicable), the game is just plain fun. I find games harder to get into than I used to but I moved from Until Dawn (which I loved) to this so I’m currently on a hot streak. With Witcher 3 also in the mix it’s been a great year so far and I haven’t even gotten to MGSV yet.

  3. Bloodborne again for me this week. Have struggled to put it down so made a lot of progress… ;)

Finished my first playthrough, defeating all optional bosses along the way and finding the various collectibles.

Decided to start a new character last night and am going for a Strength build this time around.

Remaining trophies: Collect all weapons (missed out on the Burial Blade on my first play through as I picked the “Submit” ending), find a 15+ blood gem, unlock the other 2 endings and defeat the final Chalice boss.

Should hopefully keep me busy until the DLC comes out in November :)
