The End Is Nigh For PlayStation 3 In New Zealand

Ladies and gentlemen, let us bow our heads and take a moment of silence in respect for PlayStation 3 in New Zealand. Over the weekend an online retailer in the country, Mighty Ape Games, posted on their Facebook page that “Sony have informed us that the PS3 is officially discontinued for NZ.”

The post was quickly removed but Sony have now clarified the situation, telling ThoseGamers.com, “SCENZ will not be shipping any more PlayStation 3 consoles to its retailers however the platform is still available in retail outlet.”

New Zealand is one of the first countries to discontinue the PlayStation 3 but the console will continue to be sold across the globe. The PlayStation 2 was in production for thirteen years and was only officially discontinued in 2013, so we expect the PS3 to be around for a good while.

  1. I hope it will be around for a while yet. I still want to buy a super slim as my (normal) slim won’t survive forever and I have hundreds of games.
