Don’t Expect Any HD Remakes From EA

Whilst Sony, Activision, Ubisoft and others have mined their back catalogue and created HD versions of older titles, EA won’t be joining them. COO Peter Moore spoke to IGN and explained that the remake market simply did not interest him, saying “It feels like pushing stuff out because you’ve run out of ideas.”

He admitted that it’s an easy way to make some cash but remakes would not fit in the “culture” of EA.

“Remakes, because of who we are, and this broad portfolio of intellectual property…you add all that together, I don’t know where we find the time to do remakes,” Moore said. “We’re a company that just likes to push forward.”

If you were cheeky you could argue that EA are already in the remake market, churning out a FIFA every year. Last year’s Vita version was exactly the same as the year before’s game with updated players.

  1. I’d rather say most of their games were on all relevant platforms anyway, so they wouldn’t reach as many new gamers as Sony does with the former PS3 exclusives on the PS4.
And I fully agree, given EA is just as much a sequel machine as all other major players, they shouldn’t take their mouth too full.

    • i too questioned what would they remaster?medal of honor would be nice!but to be fair ea is pretty much sports games….OMG! fight night please….

  2. Bit of a shame that we won’t be getting a remaster of the original Mirror’s Edge. I can’t say I’m too fussed about anything else (although, come to think of it, a remake of the PS2 Burnout games would be awesome!).

  3. AS long as it means they focus more on delivering great games without shoving in microtransactions in the single player, it makes sense. Then again, Activision has shown us how to do remakes on the cheap.

Shame Mirror’s Edge won’t get a remake as i think the time is right for it to be remade due to it being released at the wrong time and during a period where first person was mostly shooters.

    • The new Mirror’s Edge is essentially a remake (not remaster nor sequel) of the original game anyway so it looks like you’ll be getting your wish sooner than you think ;)

It’s a shame though as I hoped for a skate 1,2,&3 remaster collection (if there’s no skate 4 on the horizon) – did you hear that EA? Skate 4 please!

  4. Wow this coming from EA, I don’t say much about them but my hats goes off to them. HD remakes are getting out of hand now, one new game in 3/4, in between those months 4/5 HD remakes that nobody asked for.

  5. Would have quite liked a Mass Effect Trilogy remaster but fine, don’t take my money then.

  6. Burnout 3 or another Burnout in that vein would have been cool.

  7. I’d much rather have a sequel to a game I liked than a remaster any day.

    • I agree!

    • I just got the Uncharted collection and I mainly got it because although I loved the originals I want to revisit the originals in an upgraded fashion of sorts. Don’t get me wrong, sequels are always better but in some cases a remaster is cool. Remakes are better than remasters providing something new is added along the way.

  8. Dead Space Trilogy could be rather tempting if done right. PS4 controller LED matching the colour of the guide lines, and comms audio through it as well would be rather nice. Oh well – less money to give to EA…

  9. Bloody liars. Their last 3 FIFA games have been exactly that ?
