Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Shipments Pass 4 Million Milestone

Capcom has announced that the latest game in its hugely popular Monster Hunter franchise has shipped over 4 million units worldwide. The news came via a press release issued earlier this morning which also revealed that total Monster Hunter sales have exceeded 33 million, a figure taken at the end of last month.

Since making its first appearance on PlayStation 2 more than a decade ago, Monster Hunter has grown into one of the publisher’s most successful properties.

The original game did little to impress western critics, many of whom singled it out as hollow and clumsy. However, a steady flow of portable sequels would pave its way to success in Japan where the series soon gained power-selling status.

In more recent years, the English-speaking fanbase has began to see a noticeable rise thanks to Nintendo’s active involvement as well as the arrival of online multiplayer features.

The next major release in the series, Monster Hunter X, is set to launch in Japan next month exclusively on 3DS.
