Gran Turismo Sport Announced For PS4, Beta Early Next Year

Gran Turismo is making its way to PS4 as Sony has announced Gran Turismo Sport at Paris Games Conference. The game will feature two FIA championships that players can compete in. The first is called the Nations Cup where you represent your nation, and the second is the Manufacturer Fan Cup that will allow you to race for different car companies.

At the end of each year the winners of the Nations Cup and the Manufacturer Fan Cup will get invited to an awards ceremony to collect prizes. A beta for Gran Turismo Sport will be available to play early next year. There are also plans to make GT Sport compatible with PlayStation VR too. GT Academy and GT Vision will also continue to be part of the series.

  1. Okay, mixed feelings. What exactly is this? A free downloadable game like that of the GT6 Academy Demo and GT HD demo, or is this certifiably GT7? Whatever it is, it seems like the result of that collaboration with the FIA to do official championships and what not.

Either way the graphics look great. Hopefully the driving model is equally a step up too.

  2. Sounds like a cut-down version but the cars look great, GT isn’t really my bag but i might be tempted by a photo mode.

  3. Who will support Volkswagen ? :)))

  4. So, this is like a separate thing? A GT-lite while they work on 7?

  5. GT Geneva Concept, GT Prologue, GT Sport.

I dare say that’s the pattern being set.

  6. “drive the future of motorsports for the next 100 years” sounds intriguing?

It looks brilliant and will no doubt handle brilliantly too, can’t wait!

  7. i bet this is just essensially a cut down version of GT6.

  8. So Sony have confirmed that it’s not GT7 and that’ll be something else, but that Sport will be bigger than the other Prologue games. It’ll have to be something special to be worth getting if you own Driveclub or Project Cars, but knowing Sony it’ll take so long to come out that people will be ready for something new. Unless of course Project Cars 2 isn’t out at the same time :)

  9. So apparently this is like a halfway thing between GT6 and 7. It’s got more features than previous Prologues, but that’s kinda what it is. Except it seems to be heavily based on GT6 instead of 7, but that’s speculation.

  10. Yup, this is obviously a prologue of sorts to test the waters. Sink or swim it will be a good base to further develop GT7 for the current gen. Top effort by the devs to hopefully deliver an unheard of day one patch game!

    • I suspect it is less about testing the water but simply about making some money. At the end of the day Sony are a business in trouble, and they can’t afford to keep shelling out untold millions year after year for Yamauchi to create his “perfect” game. Especially not when Turn 10 are turning out a new Forza every two years with MS getting a nice regular income from it (and Horizon in between).

As suggested this is probably a half-way house. More content than a Prologue to be better value for money (and hence justify a full game price tag), and incorporating just enough new improvements developed for GT7 to feel like an improvement over 6, and then GT7 can then be focused on for release a year or two after this.
