Just in case you hadn’t noticed, Christmas in a little over a month away. If you’re not one to check the days off on a calendar, chances are you’ve been given ample hints from the floods and floods of Christmas (and Black Friday) related adverts and sales promotions.
Wonderful…
The biggest talking point of the week by far was the revelation of PlayStation 2 emulation being used for the classic Star Wars game bundle on PlayStation 4. It’s very early days yet, but it could be a sign of bigger things to come.
DividSmythe was a little sceptical of how sweeping a feature it will become, saying, “I’m guessing there is only going to be emulation for digital only games. So it’ll only be a select few games when it does come. Let’s just hope they get proper trophy support, as I saw somewhere GTA San Andreas rated for PS4. I’d love to platinum that.”
Is it something people will even use, though? Youles wrote, “I guess this is good, for those that want it, but I cannot see me spending a single minute playing any PS2 games on my PS4 – let alone paying for digital PS2 games in 2015/2016! Nostalgia is always, always cruel to me and I still have my PS2 (or the PS+ freebies) if I want to play something pixelated!”
JR. had similar thoughts, saying, “I always liked the idea of backwards compatibility on the original PS3, but I never used it and I don’t think I’ll use it on the PS4 either. I barely have time to play all the new games and the only reason I’d replay an old game is if it has been cleaned up/remastered. The exception being PS1 games on the Vita.”
Similar thoughts, it must be said, to the Xbox One’s backward compatibility, albeit with more recent and relevant games.
Elsewhere, EA have acknowledged the unpopularity of microtransactions, and is looking to “alleviate the fatigue” that surrounds them.
Starman opined, “I think with the demise of online passes EA and others are looking for alternative ways to get extra money from their games, and microtransactions are going to be that way. It seems now it’s rarer for a game not to have them included.”
Leeroye was much less conciliatory, as he said, “I also have season pass fatigue, can they do something about that? What fatigues me more is season passes being on sale when no content has been announced for them. EA will always try and seem like they are doing the right thing by gamers, but they never truly will. They are the kings of the nickel and dime games they are now saying they will do something about!”
Similarly, TSBonyman asked, “who is going to alleviate the fatigue of always-online singleplayer racing?”
Who indeed…
Finally, the eternally cheery demeanour of Street Fighter V Producer Yoshinoro Ono let slip a playful dig at Xbox One owners who want to play his PlayStation 4 exclusive game. “There’s plenty of time to save $300 before the game comes out,” he teased.
“That’s the kind of thing Don Mattrick would say,” Starman said, while Avenger wrote, “I think he’s forgetting that the game is coming to PC.”
But maybe it should cut both ways? Jayjay119 wrote, “I dunno if this was satirical comment, but this was the literal attitude people at Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics took when the Rise of The Tomb Raider was released. We got a really condescending letter about how we could still buy Temple of Osiris and the reboot which propelled public anger further.”
There’s been plenty of wandering around the wasteland of Fallout 4 once more, with Carrot381 starting a fresh playthrough of the game, and mrfodder only taking a break to speed around on Endor in Battlefront, or commute in to work for a good reason to finish Lara Croft Go.
However, it’s The Walking Dead – Season 2 which has been getting the most mentions, since it came to PlayStation Plus. Eldave0 has ticked off another episode and has just one more to go, while hornet1990 enjoyed his play through, but can see the formula that Telltale are using. Sticking with Telltale, colmshan1990 finished Game of Thrones and staked his claim to the platinum record.
Black Ops 3 has been another popular one, with both Eldave0 and Youles gunning for trophies and prestiges, by making good use of this weekend’s double XP. Youles has also been a good brother, helping his kin to reach 100% of the Zombies Moon DLC trophies in the original Black Ops.
The Lone Steven completed Arkham City, and actually rather enjoyed getting all the Riddler mysteries and trophies in the end. He hopes to do the same for Asylum and Origins in good time, but for now he’s moved on to the sheer insanity that is Saints Row IV.
R1MJAW has been up to his usual co-op gaming in Borderlands 2 and Dying Light, but he’s now also managed to race his way back up to 100% of the trophies (again) for both Driveclub and Driveclub Bikes. The world of fast cars has also seen Pixel_nme platinum Need for Speed, while bigchrissyc thinks he has Crazy_Del‘s record beaten for the game.
And speaking of the devil, Crazy_Del seems to be back to his trophy hunting ways, as in two consecutive weeks he has grabbed two platinum trophies, this time for Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate. It’s a record, to boot!
Welcome back, Del!
We’re nearly done, but you can head over to page two for the return of the Fastest Platinum boards. To finish off this page, we have the usual submission form for photos and accomplishments.

Crazy_Del
I am not back! Assassins Creed was easy to Platinum. There was no grind/chore involved. Same with Need for Speed. My next game to play is Fallout 4.

I always knew you’d never be able to kick the habit!
The Lone Steven
HEY! I kicked my jelly baby addictin years ago! Take that back, you utter…..
oh.
you meant….
er… nevermind.
The Lone Steven
I didn’t say that i got THE RIDDLER trophies. I said that i completed Arkham’s stories and getting the trophies is my aim and for it to be done by the end of this year. Do i need to start throwing pies everywhere and write using thrown pies? Or do i need to start burning toeshoes in protest of Tef’s inability to report it correctly twice in a row? Because i will not hestiate to burn toeshoes!
And Del, as always is a collector of trophies. What? I’ve been banned from using the W word and currently being sued for slander by various TSA members for my antics a few years ago. I’m going to miss my biscuits if they win.
Joking aside, i’m starting to enjoy aiming for 100% completion and no, this man is not getting any PS3 plats. Why? Because some trophies are online, some are impossible, i aim to get a PS4 within the next 3-4 months if i get a job by then thus getting PS4 plats, raging hard when i realise that there’s a trophy that requires a lot of hoops and beating up half of TSA for no reason and because plats are not something i generally aim for.
The downside of having done the story of Arkham City is that i can’t do new game plus in one playthrough. I know it and it just ruins all incentive to do so. Shame but i’ll probably return to new game plus in 2016. Probably grab the GOTY edition of Asylum when i want to do another playthrough and origins? If i can spare the data and have a job by then, probably grab the DLC. It is also odd playing Asylum after Origins as the controls are very different and it’s a bit slower. On a related note(i know, it scares me as well), i now intend to get the Harley Quinn Pre-52 collection. My wallet is going to hate me in 2016.
As for Saints Row IV, i feel sorry for the poor people that put their heart and souls into the cars due to the superpowers making them useless. I mean, currently, i’ve got unlimited supersprinting and i am the fastest thing in a game. I can’t use homies until they are all super homies as they can’t keep up and even then, they struggle to keep up. I am aiming to be powered up fully and upgraded to the point where i laugh off explosions, bullets, fire just to annoy Zinyak.
We need more Zinyak villians. What? He is an excellent Villian and we need more like him. ALthough, he went too far and ruined Biz Markie! I will tear his head off for ruining a singalong.
