PS4 And Call Of Duty: Black Ops III Were Best Sellers Of 2015 According To NPD

The latest NPD report that shows how the games industry is faring in the USA has been released, though it is limited to retail stores and doesn’t include digital sales. The report confirms that the PS4 was the best selling console for the month of December as well as all of 2015. The best selling game of 2015 was Call Of Duty: Black Ops III, including in the month of December, showing that Activision’s IP still holds a firm grip at the top.

There was no real change in the money being spent with 2015’s total coming in at $13.13 billion, the same as 2014, though software sales were down by 2% and hardware by 4%. Accessory sales did see a decent rise, increasing by 12%. There was a sharp decline in sales of last gen hardware, falling by 71% compared to 2014. December 2015 was the best month so far for both new gen hardware sales, and software related to the PS4 and Xbox One.

  1. Interesting that all the shooters sold more on the XB1 but all the sports games and everything else sold more on the PS4.

    • I bet that a recently ousted intern of the fraternity would have had toes curled and nails ‘a’ spitting at the first part of your comment :P
Surprised that Just Cause 3 didn’t feature in either list; horses for courses and all that I guess.

      • I know right :) This list is pretty much what I expected. All the shooters, all the sports games and a few of the more popular multiplats. I imagine the chart looked almost identical last year too.

Totally forgot about JC3 and I only completed it a few weeks ago.
