EA Leaves The E3 Show Floor, Hosting Their Own Events

EA are withdrawing from the show floor at E3 and moving its press conference to Sunday rather than Monday. Instead of having demos at the  LA Convention centre the gaming giant will host its own events, one in LA and one – hurrah – in London.

“We are taking our commitment to put our players first further this year by creating a play experience built around them,” an EA rep told VG247.

“Hosting our own event allows us to connect directly with our players and create a meaningful experience for them. In Los Angeles, our players will have access to the games on Monday. We will open up the event to the industry on Tuesday, allowing those who are in town for E3 to see our games and join the experience.“We’ll unveil more in the months ahead about the games.”

EA Play LA will be open for three days at Club Nokia, whilst EA Play London will last just a single day on June 12th at The Mermaid Theatre and events space in Blackfriars.

All the events will be streamed on the internet and the big show conference will happen at the ever so pleasing time of 9pm Sunday June 12th.

  1. I hope this isn’t the start of E3’s demise if other’s follow suit.

    • Is that such a bad thing? I can never keep up with all the announcements, new footage etc during E3. Each publisher doing their own thing would spread it out a bit, and hopefully de-incentivise them from releasing sexed up footage to compete with everyone elses that then gets downgraded and whinged about…

      • Was kinda thinking the same myself – It’s not like us general public get too much exposure to the stuff on show & most of the time, we have heard what we need to about stuff before its even officially announced anyway.

Yes, it would rule out all news from that particular event, but as you say, they tend to come so thick & fast you miss stuff anyway.

E3 Bingo would take a hit though I feel! :D

      • E3 Bingo will never die! Never!

  2. 9pm? 10pm for Continental Europe? No need to stay up all night long..? That’s nice. :o)

  3. So what’s the real reason for this behind the corporate speak? Do E3 charge too much? Or is it so they get a day with all the news dedicated to them?

  4. I wonder if that means that none of their games will make an appearance at E3 during one of the ‘big three’ pressers either.

  5. It’ll be a shame if more devs/publishers follow suit. I quite look forward to E3 and soaking up all the announcements and trailers – it’ll make console reveals a little dull too. In my opinion at least.
