Ubisoft Announces That The Division Has Broken Company Sales Records

Ubisoft has revealed that The Division has set the record for most copies sold in 24 hours of any title that the developer has released. This includes digital sales with The Division setting records for the company on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Ubisoft claims that with these latest records the company has three of the most successful new IP launches ever within the games industry.

Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot said of the launch:

“The launch of The Division is a tremendous achievement for Ubisoft, and demonstrates our unrivaled capacity to create fantastic new game brands and transform them into entertainment blockbusters. This is a momentous day for Ubisoft, but more importantly it marks the start of millions of players’ enduring engagement in The Division’s game world, which we are confident they will love.”

  1. Well I didn’t, am waiting for the reviews!

  2. Well done Ubisoft, they took a gamble on a new ip and it’s paid off.I was impressed with the E3 reveal and then the following year we saw some co-op gameplay and for me i was sold right there and then.I pre-ordered in September 2014.

    • Pretty much the same for me! Glad to see a new IP doing well, as you say.

  3. I cant help but think that THREE years since reveal to launch, they are kind of cheating saying it’s the biggest launch ever as they have three years of pre-orders and hype.

It’s the same as movies which open on a Sunday so they get a seven day opening weekend (to next sunday) and then claim they have broken all records, vs normal movies which open on a friday and have three day opening weekend.

Also I suspect some people woke up they other day to find a copy of a game the pre-ordered three years and completely forgot.

    • I notice they are also including digital sales, which I believe is quite a new thing.. Up until recently only physical sales were counted, so it makes sense there would be a big jump in the stats

    • Well, so long as they’ve been consistent with their variables, in terms of their other releases, it’s a fair claim ;)

And for you Ubi title, I think it’s had a pretty smooth launch (touches wood). Lots of time and two Beta help, what do you know!

    • Yep no doubt 3 years of trailers, articles and updates helped a lot.

I always thought the movie thing was a bit of a cheat as prices always go up so records will always be broken every year. They never say tickets sold do they? Bit like Microsoft with their percentages and engagement stats.

  4. Nice. Also kudos that they took their time making it and didn’t rush it out. Very polished, no online hiccups.
