Sony Computer Entertainment’s vice president Masayasu Ito has spoken to Nikkei, and in the article he appears to suggest that Sony is exploring PSVR compatibility with PC. Definite plans to activate such a feature have not been put in place though, with games being the main priority for Sony’s upcoming platform.
It may be worth taking this with as just an idea considering Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida stated a few years ago that the DS4 would work with basic functions on Windows. There is a hint of truth there in that the controller does work on PC for games, but only after you download some third party software like DS4Windows. There’s also the issue of Sony having to make the PS4 Camera and Move controllers PC compatible too if the VR headset is to be fully functional on PC.
If Sony did branch out to the PC market with PSVR then it would present a cheaper alternative to the likes of Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

Nice!

They may as well do it themselves, we all know will people will make it run anyway so why not make it a feature?

Very nice! And the camera and controllers don’t need to be compatible, your PC just needs software to read motion through a decent webcam. And with the breakout box you might even get away with using a lower spec PC than Oculus and the rest. I really want VR now!
Hopefully Sony do sort out proper PC DS4 drivers though, they’d certainly help sell the upcoming PC remote play app. Or if it’s free they might sell a few controllers off the back of it.

If they do it too soon, they might be seen as stepping on the toes of Rift and Vive’s baby steps. If they wait too long, the Rift and Vive might see cost/price reductions and narrow the margin between them.
But a PC-compatible PSVR is an appealing prospect.
