It’s the strategy game Koei are been desperately waiting for. Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII may look similar to the company’s Dynasty Warriors series but, in truth, the two couldn’t be any more different.
Sure, they both inhabit the same time period in Chinese history yet the way they go about presenting this iconic era are worlds apart. Where Dynasty Warriors has been poised around action-heavy combat, RotK is a much more tactical, complex affair. Button mashing here won’t get you any further than the starting menu.
Similar to Nobunaga’s Ambition: Sphere of Influence, XIII is the latest in its own long-running grand strategy series. Today Koei announced several new battle types that will feature in this newest instalment.
Aside from a range of combat and siege scenarios, players will engage in naval battles, duels, and debates. Whether confronting your enemies on open water or in a head-to-head melee, XIII is looking to bring every dramatic moment to life.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII is set to launch on PC and PlayStation 4 this July.
