Community Round-Up: 07/05/16

The battle of 2016’s shooters kicked off this week, with Infinity Ward and DICE both revealing their upcoming shooters. With two very different games going up against each other – one a futuristic shooter, the other stepping back to World War I – which will you be buying later this year if you had to pick?

Anyway, let’s turn our attention to the past seven days as we begin this week’s Community Round-Up!

Looking at the reviews, it was probably a surprise for no-one that Uncharted 4 got slapped with a 10/10. The game has looked incredible for some time, and Jim called it “more than masterful” in his spoiler free reviewing, saying “Naughty Dog has taken a gigantic leap, proving yet again they’re the best in the business.” Tef also spoke to Troy Baker about how he became Sam Drake in the game, and interviewed Bruce Straley about bringing Uncharted to its conclusion. Who’s excited for Tuesday, then?

Following that, and on a 9/10, Neverending Nightmare was a game that explores our greatest inner fears to great effect with its truly “disturbing atmosphere throughout”. Aran also gave an 8/10 to The Magic Circle: Gold Edition, “a humourous and satirical look at the complexity of game development” with great writing and interesting visuals.

Meanwhile, Dom gave a very good 9/10 to Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright as he called the 3DS title “amongst the best tactical videogames of all time” and a must for fans of the series. This week Tef reviewed The Walking Dead: Michonne following the completion of Telltale’s miniseries. Overall, he gave it a 7/10, citing “some great set piece moments” along with a solid story, however noted that there is little character development.

The review scores took a bit of a dive after that, with The Detail sitting on a 4/10. Again, Aran’s score was for the series as a whole, and although the first two episodes started very well, the story “ends without a satisfying resolution”. The last scored review earned itself paltry a 3/10, with Jim saying that Coffin Dodgers desperately lacked the polish it needed to make it a fun racer. That said, trophy hunters might want to take a look at it, as Jim says it is now the PS4’s easiest platinum trophy.

A scoreless DLC review, Kris thoroughly enjoyed the German DLC for Train Valley calling it “a DLC for people who loved the main game, and it will likely leave them begging for even more”.

The sole preview of the week was Nioh, the Samurai action RPG from Team Ninja that draws inspiration from games such as Dark Souls, and a game that Jim is looking forward to.

From the Blogs, Dave shares his thoughts for vanilla World of Warcraft and why the best way to show support for it is to vote with your wallets, while Stefan wrote a handy guide for distinguishing Battleborn from Overwatch.

Finishing up, last weekend’s Chronicle talked about stolen Uncharted 4 copies and the Infinity Warfare reveal, as What We Played #252 featured Dark Souls 3, Fire Emblem and Uncharted 4 for a very lucky Jim and Stefan.

Time to open up the Forums and have a look! Sadly, they’re even quieter than usual!

That’s all for this Round Up. The weather is meant to be amazing this weekend so enjoy it, and I’ll see you again soon!
