The Sims 4 Update Removes Gender Barriers For Character Customisation

A big change was made to The Sims 4’s character creation tools yesterday, as a free patch to the game has broken down the previous barriers between genders. The lines between having ‘male’ and ‘female’ customisation options have been removed.

What this means is that you can now create a Sim with a much broader set of physiques, walking styles and tones of voice. Beyond that, over 700 items of clothing and accessories from both the main game and expansions have also been made available to all, with clothing, hair, jewelry and more no longer set as being for one specific gender alone.

Writing on the game’s news page, Maxis said, “The Sims is made by a diverse team for a diverse audience, and it’s really important to us that players are able to be creative and express themselves through our games. We want to make sure players can create characters they can identify with or relate to through powerful tools that give them influence over a Sims gender, age, ethnicity, body type and more.”
