Red Dead Redemption Will Be Backwards Compatible On Xbox One From July 8th

Rockstar Games has confirmed that Red Dead Redemption will be joining the Xbox One backwards compatibility list from Friday July 8th. This isn’t too much of a surprise announcement considering there have been various leaks related to this news over the last few months, but now we have confirmation at last. Rockstar has confirmed that it will be playable no matter which Xbox 360 copy you own.

Starting on Friday, every Red Dead Redemption Xbox 360 owner will be able to play the game directly on their Xbox One, regardless of which version of the game they own (Red Dead Redemption, Undead Nightmare and Red Dead Redemption: Game of the Year Edition). And for those who have yet to experience it, the game will be available to purchase on Friday from the Games Store on Xbox One.

Now all we need is an announcement of a new Red Dead.

From the heady days of the Mega Drive up until the modern day gaming has been my main hobby. I'll give almost any game a go.

  1. Awesome. Loved this game but I doubt I will be playing through it again any time soon. Wonder how it will hold up compared to the original hardware. Some games seem a bit hit and miss, mostly hit. Impressive that they have managed to emulate the 360 nonetheless.

  2. Finally! That’s great news, and good timing with the sale on at the moment.

Hopefully it will be like most third party games in being hit rather than miss on the BC side of things. I might wait a day or two, just to be on the safe side, but I’m hoping for the best.

  3. I wouldn’t say no to a remaster, or just a PC version…

  4. I don’t mind playing it again on ps4 as it one of my favourite game. To this day I still can’t get stay alive for 18 mins trophy online. :D

  5. Considering Red Dead Redemption is now trending on twitter, I’d say that’s pretty impressive for a 6 year old game! I hope Rockstar realise how much money they could make from a sequel and just give it to us!

    • There was a rumour that Red Dead 2 was meant to be revealed at the end of Sony’s E3 conference, they supposedly pulled it due to the clip showing the character going into a saloon and gunning people down or something along those lines, with the shooting in the gay club that week it was pulled and replaced with the playing of Days Gone, that was the rumour anyway.

      • I understand why they pulled it if that were true, but why not just have a more low key announcement/remove that clip? And when would they next have a chance to announce it? Gamescom?

      • Supposedly it was such a last minute decision that they didn’t have time to cut a new trailer, also rumour is Sony won’t be at Gamescom but as i say these are just rumours.

  6. What a game!
