Remedy Entertainment Are Working On The Story For Korean FPS CrossFire 2

Alan Wake and Quantum Break developer Remedy Entertainment are heading in a rather different direction for their next game, striking up a partnership with South Korean developer Smilegate to make a story for their upcoming shooter CrossFire 2.

That, in and of itself, is the sequel to one of the biggest games you’ve likely never heard of. A free to play multiplayer shooter, CrossFire was the top grossing online game of 2014, thanks to a huge following in Southeast Asia.

It’s an unusual sounding fit for Remedy, with the naturally high bar for story in their games. CrossFire is based around the conflict between two rival factions called Global Risk and Black List. Global Risk is a PMC that fights for justice, helping the weak and only taking jobs that match their ideaology, while Black List is willing to do anything for money.

It’s not the most inspiring premise, but Remedy write that “The whole team here at Remedy is incredibly excited to be a key partner in developing the future of the CrossFire franchise. Smilegate specifically chose Remedy to bring our unique blend of storytelling, memorable characters and inventive gameplay to Crossfire’s global audience.

“We have been developing this project for a while and couldn’t be more excited to show you what we’re working on, so stay tuned for more details later down the line.”

Remedy recently changed the way they develop games, so that they can focus on more than one project at a time, lessening the risks that each individual game’s success or failure holds for the company. So CrossFire 2 won’t be the only thing that they’re working on.
