80% Of No Man’s Sky Support Requests Now Resolved

No Man’s Sky on PS4 has been patched again, with “one more major updatecurrently being tested. The game is now on version 1.07 and Hello Games say that around 80% of reported problems have now been fixed. Here are all the patch notes.

Objectives and stuck without Hyper-drive Issues

  • Player no longer able to redeem your pre-order ship at a point which would then prevent you learning the hyper-drive blueprint (and if you have done this, we save you).
  • Player no longer able to bypass being sent to find hyper-drive tech by reloading a save in game at a very specific point.

Getting Stuck in the world

  • It was possible for players to save their game stuck under the terrain, leaving them stuck. This was caused by getting shot down in atmosphere, and their ship reaching ridiculous speeds as it crashed to the planet. This has been resolved.
  • Whilst it won’t happen anymore, if you are currently already stuck under the world, we detect this and do our best to rescue you.
  • Fixed a couple of other low repro bugs that could result in you falling through the world and getting stuck underground.
  • A raycast in some space stations could hit a very specific point that would put the player inside the floor.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause your ship to be thrown in the sky at high speed when taking off (in rare cases could in turn lead to getting stuck).
  • Fixed an issue that would cause your ship to get stuck in terrain and prevent you from taking off, if the player managed to out run generation of terrain LOD 1, and land inside an overhang.

  • Some players were unable to achieve the extreme survival journey milestone, this has been resolved.
  • Fixed an issue where some players had some technology types being reported as “already known” when they weren’t actually known.
  • Under some circumstances a message was sometimes misinforming you that you learnt a blueprint when you hadn’t, this has been fixed now.
  • It was possible you could use up all available slots for waypoints on the galaxy map and be unable to set new waypoints. This is much better now.
  • There was a bug that could cause objective markers to disappear when you loaded a previous save. This is fixed now.
  • Fixed a rare issue when scanning creatures that would cause all planets to show as 100% complete even if you had only completed one.

Save / Load

  • Fixed a bug what could cause some corrupt save games to not be loaded, this is now fixed.
  • Fixed an issue where saves made with the system clock set in the future could cause problems.

Crash Fixes

  • Fixed a crash that would sometimes happen when warping into a system with a space battle in progress.
  • Fixed a crash that could happen when interacting with an NPC.

Tweaks and Improvements

  • It is now easier to scan flying creatures.
  • Fixed height and weight stats being the wrong way around for creatures.
  • Gek towers can no longer be interacted with repeatedly.
  • The ‘You have unredeemed items’ message will now only show for the first 5 minutes.
  • Fixed getting 0% charge on Photon Cannon when buying a new ship and constantly being prompted to charge it.
  • Reduce Suit VO for life support warnings and only do life support VO on 25% and 50%.
  • Fixed grave being transferred to the new star system after you warp.
  • Fixed toxic protection 3 (theta) from having the wrong name.
  • Fixed incorrect marking of sea caves under floating islands.
  • Turning down music and SFX volume in the options will now work correctly (mutes the VO also).
  • If you change ship or multi-tool and then revert to previous save the ship should now be the one you had at the time.
  • Atlas station collision improvements to prevent you from bumping into them too much.
  • Fix for the stars not being discarded during load/warp (causing duplicate stars).

Crash after warping

  • Occasionally at random the game would lock up after a warp. This was due to very specific timing in hardware (a threading specific bug) – meaning that unfortunately for some people it was regular, and for others they would never be able to recreate it. This was our most reported crash during gameplay, and has now been resolved.

Game failing to save until you died

  • If the player died, and then loaded the game ten times without saving, and then died, player progress wouldn’t be saved from then on until you died again. This is fixed now! This was also causing player’s saves to grow in size.

Crash fixes in scanning

  • Quite a rare crash, but in certain scenarios it was possible to scan from space or on planet and crash the game.

Crash warping inside a freighter

  • When warping into a battle sometimes the player warped into the inside of a freighter and everything went crazy :( – This is fixed now.

Stranded in Space Station

  • If you died in your ship while in atmosphere of a planet with a damaged ship, you could respawn in a space station with your launch thrusters and pulse engine damaged. If you did not have the resources to fix them then you could no longer take off and be stuck there. This will no longer happen.

Loading Corrupted Save Files

  • Some players have corrupted save files, we’ve been working with them to still load saves even if they are corrupted (this can happen for many reasons outside of the games control). This fix has allowed many players to still load their save even if they have become corrupt.

Crash fixes for next three most commonly reported issues:

  • As the player gathers a huge amount of discoveries, there was a threading issue that becomes more prevalent the more discoveries you have, and could cause the game to crash.
  • If you had collected a large number of blueprints, in a specific order it was possible to crash the game when you received a new blueprint. This has been fixed.
  • Players who set a large number of waypoints could find themselves in a situation where they could crash the game in the Galactic Map, this is remedied now (PS. A better waypoint system is coming).

News Editor, very inappropriate, probs fancies your dad.

  1. This is the reason why I’ll wait to buy the GOTY edition…

    • There’ll be a GOTY edition?!!

Maybe a HGLOTY edition (Hilarious Game Launch Of The Year). :-P

  2. That’s a fairly thorough list, fortunately i’ve only had 4 crashes my entire time playing. Only thing i’ve noticed happening sometimes now is when you’re cruising around a planet and occasionally it’s like you hit an air pocket which slows you down for a moment.

“one major update being tested” … i wonder if it’s base building..

    • Air pockets? Maybe it’s a new feature.

Which sounds marginally less annoying than trying to fly right around a planet to something on the other side. That estimated time to arrival goes up and down all over the place. But it’s deliberate. You can fly faster higher up, but you can end up taking a longer route. I quite like trying to find the quickest route.

But then I bugger it all up by bouncing off the atmosphere. Which can happen quite easily.

      • For those long distances, leave then planet atmosphere and then go a little bit further, then use pulse engine to pretty much auto-pilot your way there.

      • I was about to mention this. Its like a carrot on a string. I just want to get to the monolith goddamnit.

It’s the only issue Ive encountered so far tbf.

Although I am having trouble finding one animal for 100% completion on my current planet. It must be high on the extinction list because I swear Ive circled the planet 6 times on foot and cannot find a damn thing. Theres just one little red dot between me and 375,000 credits. Where’s Liam Neeson when you need him? He’d find it.

      • Check caves and any water areas JR, it’s where i’ve found a couple of those final critters. Don’t worry about getting lost in caves either – as long as you have the grenade upgrade you can blast your way back out.

      • Just remember to blast your way out in an upwards direction. Not making that mistake again.

  3. This is better than all of their previous updates which have just been described by 2 words, “bug fixes”. At least now we know which particular bugs they’ve addressed.
To be honest I’d personally encountered 4 or 5 of those bugs listed above but I haven’t played for some time. Maybe it’s time now for me to jump back in and complete that arduous journey to the centre. I think I’m about 100 warps away from it.

    • That list isn’t just the 1.07 list of fixes, it’s all the fixes so far.

  4. Hope you’ve all seen this. Bitingly funny. :P

    • Hah, yep, it’s the music that makes it :) Did you get the game Mike? If so how are you getting on?

      • Nah, not interested until the full game is in there, patched, robust, all features present. Might pick it up one day. However, the timing of PS+ has been sublime – I poo you not!

Rebel Galaxy is a bit of fun. Sure, it’s nothing more than a 7-out-of-10 game but it’s really scratching that itch of zipping around a solar system. Last night I had a beacon fire up. I know it could be a trap but I went on in to investigate. Not only were there a couple of hostiles waiting for me amongst the asteroids but they’d rigged the place with proximity mines that fly towards you when you get too near. Bastards! I only made it out alive when I flew behind one of the big asteroids to put a physical barrier between me and them. Thankfully sub-light speed had kicked in and warp engines were back online.

Talking of which… this is “warp”. It feel so right. So “wooooohoooo!!!”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8arNzoq9KM

      • You say sublime but for me it’s like two busses coming along at once! That video has got me interested, I’ll give it a go when I’ve gotten over NMS, all I played when I was younger was X-Wing, Freespace, Starlancer, Darkstar One etc so this sudden spate of space sims is wonderful! Fair enough waiting for NMS to improve, there’s a few things I’d like changed but it is pretty incredible in its present state. You’ll definitely need to play it at some point :)

    • Haha, i found some very strange creatures but nothing quite like that. But if i ever do find one of those i’ll expect it to sound exactly like that! ;)

  5. Had my longest-play-without-a-crash-session yesterday. A massive 3 hours (sarcasm). Then it just went back to crashing every 90 minutes.

How ever did this game get through testing?

Three lessons learnt from this botch up, I’ll never buy digital again, I’ll never buy day one again and never believe what the developers say.

    • Presumably it got through testing because the crashes are rare? Looking at the list of fixes, they definitely seem to be caused by things you might not pick up on in testing.

Find a large number of blueprints in a certain order and it crashes? Let’s say you’ve found 20. You could find those in a couple of quintillion different orders. Even 10 is over 3.5 million orders to find them in. Is anyone surprised a bug like that could go unnoticed?

It looks to me like it’s just the vast number of things involved. All those planets and systems and creatures to generate? 99% of those are probably fine and don’t cause issues. That remaining 1% is still huge. Testing will find an issue with 1 of them, fixing it will probably fix it for millions more. But some are still going to get through.

Now you release it and you’ve got a million people playing. 99% of those probably haven’t had a crash. 1% will and now 80% of the causes of those are fixed. Must be a couple of thousand people still having problems.

Report the bugs and feel all special. You’re probably in a small group still having trouble.

Of course, if you’re in that small group, it’s going to be a bit annoying. But you could be in the small group of people who have lost a leg in a terrible boating accident, so there’s that.

      • I understand everyone’s frustration where they may have encountered a serious bug but some reactions are so over the top it’s hilarious. People going from calm to outraged in 60 seconds. Smashing up their Playstations with a lightsabre like Kylo Ren on a really, really bad day.

  6. I really, really enjoy this game. The criticisms are definitely warranted and features are definitely missing but I still keep coming back to it.
