Firmware 4.0 Allows You Transfer Games, Saves, And Videos Between PS4 Consoles

Good news if you are planning on upgrading to a PlayStation Pro in the near future, if you have an Ethernet cable handy you will not have to re-download all your games, saves, and files. The following has been posted on the PlayStation Blog:

Q: What if I already own a standard PS4? Is there an easy way to transfer my games, saved data, and Share captured content from a standard PS4 to PS4 Pro?
Yes. You will be able to copy your games, saved data, captured videos and screenshots, system settings, and other content from a standard PS4 to PS4 Pro using a standard Ethernet cable. This process will also work from standard PS4 to standard PS4, PS4 Pro to standard PS4, and PS4 Pro to PS4 Pro provided that both units have system software update 4.00 or higher installed, and the same PSN account is signed into both systems.

  1. That’s no use when you have to take the 2TB drive out of one and stick in the other.

    • Very true, I couldn’t believe that you basically lose everything when you transfer HDD to another console, you have to re download everything again

    • Ahhhhh, this exactly, and so now also will have to swap out 2tb back to the 500gb to trade in, then take the 1TB out of the pro and install the 2TB, then re-download everything!
They should of had an option for people to buy this without any Hdd at all.
A lot of the people this SKU is aimed at would have upgraded to a 2TB drive.
      I’m sad now, need a hug :(

      • Since forever you have been able to backup your PS4 completely to an external HDD and then reinstall everything when you upgrade PS4/HDD.

      • Not sure I can give you the hug you need. I see it’s a painful upgrade process for you, no doubt.

But, how man users have a 2TB drive in their PS4? 0.001%? Maybe 10 times as many among those the Pro is intended for?
Do you really expect them to build extra console packages at extra costs for that?
        Are you serious?

      • Ah shame about that hug :(
No not build a Different unit, just allow purchases of any SKU minus the HDD.

      • I’m sure you’ll manage, and in the end feel extremely good about your shiny new PS4 Pro with your massive 2TB drive, knowing you have a better rig than 99.99% of all other console gamers… ;o)

      • Luckily i have a 2TB hdd in my PS4 and it all backed up on another 2TB hdd.

      • Sooo easy either way when i get my Pro in November :)

    • You’re right i guess i really shouldn’t be complaining. Thanks for the hug, my happy has returned :)

  2. Tidy. Although wasn’t this a feature we had on the PS3? Also, does anyone know how often Plus should back up game saves? My last few games haven’t been uploaded at all, but last year they seemed to merrily back up automatically and leave a bit of evidence in the Uploaded menu.

    • I think it should save them to the cloud every time the game auto saves. On my PS4 there are loads of notifications every day saying it’s back up game saves etc which take for ever to delete. There should be an option to delete them all.

      • Thanks dude! I must be missing an option somewhere then, I’ll investigate.

      • Your PS4 auto-uplads saves to PS+ cloud when in Rest Mode.

      • Could it be full ron? Go to application saved data management check what you need ticked is so,also check space in cloud but then even if it is full you should be getting upload error messages.

      • Thanks for your help gents, homerjnick you hit the nail on the head looks like I need to use Rest Mode, it doesn’t seem to do it when the PS4 is on and being used, cheers buddy.

      • Oh crap, i forgot all about Rest mode being needed for gamesave uploads. I’ll never switch my PS4 off again! :O
Does anyone know if i can just start up a few games i haven’t played for a bit, then quit and they will be included in the next upload – or do i have to update the savegame for each one before they will trigger for upload?

    • did they ever fix that bug where you couldn’t upload anything if you had too many notifications?
you could get around that by deleting the notifications, but, you had to delete them one by one.
