The Last Guardian Delayed Until December

It seemed almost too good to be true when The Last Guardian appeared during Sony’s presser at E3 2016 with an actual release date. The game had been missing in action for years ever since its first captivating teaser, but October 25th was the date players would finally be able to get their hands on it. Well things have changed and The Last Guardian has been delayed, with it now releasing on December 6th in North America, December 7th in Europe, and December 9th in the UK and Ireland.

In a statement on the PlayStation blog Shuhei Yoshida wrote:

A delay is a difficult decision, particularly with this game, but we have encountered more bugs than anticipated while in the final stages of development. To ensure that The Last Guardian delivers on the experience that the game’s creators have envisioned, we need to take the extra time to work on those issues.

So if you’ve been waiting for The Last Guardian you’re going to have to be patient for just a bit longer.

  1. Surely everyone was assuming that was going to happen anyway?

    • I honestly thought it’d be released when they said it would, I’m so naive! I couldn’t help laughing when I read the story though, blardy typical.

  2. I was going to ask whether this will have a Pro mode, but then that would probably delay it for another 3 years – then they’d probably decide to delay it again and release it on the PS5.

  3. Well now we know why they didn’t call it The Punctual Guardian. That would have been awkward.

  4. On release day… I’m gonna insert the disc in the PS4, let it install and go on holiday for two weeks. Who’s waiting now huh? Huh? HUH?

    • Do that & I’m gonna grass you up to the RSPCA for letting the CatBirdDoggy starve. Hopefully it will eat the annoying kid first.

      • Im gonna walk that annoying kid of a cliff a few times just for making us wait. Maybe there’s a trophy for dying a lot :)

You best get the number for the RSPCC while you’re at it.

      • Saying that, if they took one look at the thing, the RSPCA themselves would either put it down on the spot or set fire to the thing.

  5. Why didn’t they just NOT give a release date? Nail it down to a quarter/season. That would have covered this. Just! :D

    • That would be far too sensible Mike!

But yeah, I have no idea why they would even think of announcing a release date if they’re not 100% sure they’ll hit it. Every delay just makes me think it will end up more and more like No Man’s Sky.

      • If there aren’t eighteen quintillion feathers on the creature I’m cancelling my pre-order.

  6. I can see TLG being Sony’s No Man Sky in terms of sheer disappointment. Hopefully, Team Ico will prove that the wait was worth it. If not, well, it’ll join the many games that took quite a long time and never lived up to it’s hype list.

Hopefully, TLG will be released and live up to expectations.

If not, Team Ico may want to consider doing smaller games in between large ones if they have a billion ideas and want to do it.

    • Imagine how boring it must be to work on the same game for 13 (or however many) years.

      • I would imagine it would be fairly boring if they didn’t scrap concepts or change anything beyond the engine. Won’t be surprised if they are burnt out or just really rusty after TLG.

  7. I can’t say i’m surprised but we’ve waited this long might as well wait for them to get everything right.

  8. This and GT sport delayed? Devastating times.

  9. Noticed we get it 2 days after the EU,suppose that’s what happens after Brexit:)

  10. The delay is due to the CatRatBat thingy going into labour and judging by the early ultrasound scans a healthy bundle of DLC is in development :P

Even if this game is brilliant it’s going to slated to frig. It must be a tense time for the development team as the inevitable release date nears and with such highly anticipated expectations….lambs to the slaughter!
