Tomorrow, 6th December, is a pretty big deal for fans of Epic Games’ MOBA Paragon, with the release of the biggest patch and update to the game since its initial Early Access-esque launch. Dubbed the ‘Monolith’ update, it sounds like an almost root and branch overhaul of the game.
For one thing, it’s now a lot faster and more action oriented. It’s still a MOBA, but you move faster – Travel Mode has been removed as a consequence – abilities and attacks resolve faster and players will be more lethal. They’re doing away with the concepts of “Physical” and “Energy” heroes, making the card system much simpler to deal with. Because of all this, every character has had to be rebalanced.
There’s also a brand new map for the game, which will become the new default map to play on. The original map still exists as a legacy option, but the new map has been designed to fuel the altered gameplay with a 30% smaller size and an asymmetrical layout.
