January’s PlayStation Plus Games Include Day Of The Tentacle Remastered And Titan Souls

Next week sees not just the start of a new month but a whole new year as 2016 fades into the shadows while 2017 jumps into the spotlight. You may have some New Year’s resolutions you’ll be trying to uphold, and you’ll definitely have a new PS Plus games line up to sink your teeth into. On PS4 you’ll have the option of playing the incredibly sombre This War Of Mine: The Little Ones, going on a wacky adventure with Day Of The Tentacle Remastered (also on Vita), taking part in some crime with The Swindle, or fighting bosses in Titan Souls. The latter two will be available on Vita with The Swindle also available on PS3. You also have Blazerush for PS3 and the Vita line up concludes with Azkend 2: The World Beneath, which is also available on PS4.

To make sense of all the cross compatibility going on here’s a handy bullet point list.

  • This War Of Mine: The Little Ones (PS4)
  • Day Of The Tentacle Remastered (PS4, Vita)
  • Titan Souls (PS4, Vita)
  • Azkend 2: The World Beneath (PS4, Vita)
  • The Swindle (PS4, PS3, Vita)
  • Blazerush (PS3)

So if you have a PS4 or Vita you’re getting a bit of a bumper month.

From the heady days of the Mega Drive up until the modern day gaming has been my main hobby. I'll give almost any game a go.

  1. You know it’s bad when you long for the time Sony was going bankrupt because they actually gave away decent games.

It almost feels like they’re punishing us at this point. ‘Hay thanks for supporting us and getting us out of the red… here’s a selection of the most lacklustre games ever made to show our appreciation.’

I’m only half serious before everyone starts loosing their Schmitt.

    • Sony were “never going bankrupt”. Where on earth did you get that from????

Last gen, PS plus arrived late, there were many years worth of games to give out, long past the point they were selling. New generation, that’s a new ballgame. Have you seen how bad Xbox games for gold are?? Much much worse is the answer.

      • No, Sony just don’t care anymore because they’re ‘winning’. Most month’s we get a collection of obscure, indie games that most people have never heard of (that probably don’t/wouldn’t sell many copies anyway) in the hope that enough people do like it and buy the extra’s/add-on’s.

I’d like to say ‘the games couldn’t get any worse’ but there’s always next month.

I’m no professional analyst (if there is such a thing) but I’m pretty sure Sony (the company) were in pretty rough shape a few years back before the PS4 came out. If it wasn’t for the success of their gaming division (PS4) and some major restructuring / selling of company assets, there was ‘talk’ that they might not make it (as they were then anyway).

I’m pretty sure they made an annual loss for 6 or 7 straight years and had their credit downgraded but don’t quote me on that. The point is, they had to make huge efforts to win gamers over because that was one of the only divisions that was actually doing well and making them money.

      • It’s fashionable to support the underdog and claim complacency with any company winning. Everyone wants competition, but someone else to buy the rubbish product…

      • Yes I want everyone to go out and buy an XB1 (there are plenty out there) so Sony are forced to try harder. They won’t do it out of the goodness of their own hearts you know.

  2. Jeez!

  3. To be fair, after reviewing them all, its not a bad month…had worse.

  4. I’d say it’s a good month. It’s one of those I don’t mind because people get to try the Day of the Tentacle, which is a superb point and click game. I paid for it in a sale but don’t mind that I spent cash on it, it was worth it. I haven’t tried anything else on the list so 5 new games for to play :-)

    • Yep, looks like a pretty decent month to me too. Some things I’ve nearly bought before, and some that look reasonably entertaining. Should definitely get more than a few quid of entertainment out of that little lot.

Obviously the internet will be full of people complaining, as always.

  5. Nothing which I was about to buy, but who knows, maybe I’ll get around trying some of it later on and find something of interest.
I’ve currently got a shipment of two PSVR games on it’s way, will get several things in the January sales and still got loads of good games on my backlog, so I couldn’t really cope with any more games I would have to play from Plus.

  6. well, Day of The Tentacle is a classic, so i’m happy to get that.

TWoM looks interesting, but a bit bleak and depressing for right now, maybe save that for later.

Titan Souls is one of those hard games isn’t it?
i just don’t have the patience for those sort of games, but i’ll give it a try.
what have i got to lose?
a joypad, sanity, my hair. ^_^

the rest are, mostly meh, The Swindle could be fun though.

    • The Swindle is brill, it’s a steampunk heist game with a little Spelunky in it.

  7. That looks like a fairly decent month, This War of Mine and The Swindle had already caught my eye and Azkend 2 should be good for a little distraction. The rest is a bonus.
Don’t know when i’ll get to play them though, haven’t tried all of last months content yet and have barely touched Dishonored 2 and just picked up Titanfall 2 and Watch Dogs 2 in the sales. Help. :/

    • I’d offer to help by taking a couple of those off your hands (assuming their not digital copies), but when would I get the time to play them? Not only did I end up with 3 games for christmas, but that PSN January sale is being too tempting too. And for various reasons, my Amazon gift certificate balance is going up faster than I can spend it.

Must stop buying games. And ask Sony to give us a crap PS+ month. That’d help.

  8. This is the first time ps+ has a game I really want that I was so close to buying days before. DOTT is one of my favourite games ever as a kid. The days of the 286 with the cutscenes running at 5 fps! CAN NOT WAIT!
Erm I mean ‘Sony you evil empire this month is shight’ (don’t want to be ostracised)

  9. I get more from Games with gold.. Luke Burnout paradise , sleeping dogs definitive. . Sony doesn’t give away gems

    • They used to. PS Plus was unrivalled in the PS3 days and will never be matched, even with MS kinda making an effort with Gold on the XB1.

One plus for Gold is that you get to keep and play the games if you cancel your sub, which you can’t do with PS Plus. Unless that changed?

The only reason I keep my PS Plus sub is so I can go back and play the huge library of games I have amassed over the years (when the games were actually good).

      • You were never allowed to keep GwG games past subscription iirc. Thing with Xbox is, you get EA access as an option too, and that’s better than both gwg and plus atm.

      • You’re right, they were yours to keep (past subscription) on the 360 but never on the XB1.

EA access is great if you like sports games and shooters but I’d rather play real sports and reeeeeally have to be in the mood for shooters. They probably chose those games to appeal to their main userbase which is fair enough.
