Just one indication of just how big a deal Overwatch is, Blizzard tweeted last night to celebrate the fact that they’ve now had more than 25 million players of their hero-based shooter. That’s a quite simply staggering, and would put it into the top 20 of all time best selling video games (according to Wikipedia)

They don’t go into specifics over platforms, whether these are purchases, or whatever, so chances are that actual sales are a little behind this figure, though not by much. What is clear is that they added another 5 million players over the holiday sales period, having last reported 20 million players at the end of October.
Now, I’m sure you’re wondering who the 25 millionth player was, and whether or not they were showered in confetti, party poppers and balloons whilst being handed a novelty size cheque. If we’d asked Blizzard about this, I’m sure they would have declined to comment.

Layout of the tweet gets in the way of the article, can’t read the text below the image.

That happens every time there’s an embedded tweet.

It did that to my phone too but after a few seconds of the page having loaded it sorted itself out.

Works in IE11, not in Chrome. Yikes.

Did you know that Microsoft Edge can get you up to 23% more battery life than Chrome?
Also, ugh… thanks for the heads up, we didn’t realise this. I’ve switched it to a screenshot instead.

A screenshot works, I guess.
I was going to take a look and see if I could spot the problem for you, which would either be something really simple that would take about as long as my mug of coffee lasts, or something horribly complicated.
But now I can’t. I do, however, have a nice big mug of coffee. So that’s good.

Outstanding achievement, well done to Blizzard. The fact that they’re still supporting the game with regular events, new skins etc is remarkable, all free. Lessons to be learned for other developers maybe?

Think we’re seeing this already. Ubisoft confirming a second year of updates for Rainbow Six Siege/ Io doing the same for Hitman.

They are keeping to their promise which was ‘you get the full gaming experience for the price you payed and all else will be cosmetic’. Besides this they released new heroes and new maps, all of which seem normal ( to me) to be free for someone who payed full price.
PS I can’t believe how many times they made me come back for those stupid skins. But I pride myself with every single one that I got :)
