Well, that’s another week gone, and with it we can nearly kiss goodbye to January already. What this means is that we’ll start getting a few more new games each month, and that we’re one week closer to Nintendo’s Switch, and Scorpio for that matter! We’re probably one week closer to a surprise hit, a disappointing sequel and a by the numbers blockbuster too, but it’s way too early to guess how stuff is going to fall.
Of course, loads of my friends have already got their hands on the first real blockbuster of the year in Resident Evil 7, and though their ravings about it are mildly tempting me, I’ve just gone off playing games that are designed to scare me. The idea of playing it in VR is completely out, as the real world is plenty scary enough at the moment without adding to it.
Instead I’ve been playing Kingdom Hearts HD Final Chapter Prologue 2.8 which has a stupid title but really shows just where the franchise is heading, as well as finally completing Uncharted 4. It completely blew number three out of the water, and the setting, acting and exploration are as sublime as everyone says. The shooting is utter bobbins, mind you. Besides that I played Arkham VR which is just cool as hell, some Forza Horizon 3 and the weekly staple of a few rounds of Overwatch.
Jake dropped in, but he’s been so busy with his new day job that this week has only seen a little Titanfall 2 multiplayer and some Pokémon Sun and Moon to tinker with the new bank update. Jim has hit a competitive rank of 3000 on Overwatch which he was suitably chuffed about, while also continuing to enjoy Watch Dogs 2 and The Witcher III Blood & Wine.
Steve platinumed the PS4 edition of Ratchet & Clank, beating his old nemesis the hoverboard, while reviewing Memoranda and playing the first Uncharted on PS4. Aran completed Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, which he enjoyed until the ending failed to satisfy him, and on the Football Manager front he’s top of the Vanarama National League with ten games to go. Fingers crossed!
Dave dropped in to let us know what he’s been up to;
I’ve completed Poochy & Yoshi’s Wooly World for our review, and begun Diluvion – a PC submarine exploration game that’s a little like FTL. It’s also been compared to Dark Souls, but I’m not seeing the comparison in my play time.
I also played and loved the Nioh Last Chance Trial over the weekend. Beat everything and everyone with a combination of skill and, in one instance, some real cheesing of the Samurai’s AI. I’m now extremely hyped for Nioh, simply because it’s scratching a particular itch that wouldn’t be scratched again until March.”
It was Tuffcub’s turn to apologise, to both me and you dear readers, as he has played Titanfall 2 yet again. That said, he also loaded up Bioshock Infinite and was immediately reminded why he didn’t enjoy it the first time, which mainly seems to have been the ridiculous idea of putting a morality system in an FPS. I’m not sure I would have bothered putting the game in the drive to be honest, but I guess he was just making sure.
Miguel has made a start on Final Fantasy XV while continuing his love for Overwatch. Also on the agenda have been Gravity Rush 2, Payday 2 and Danganronpa 2, which all have something in common. Check back next week to see if your answer matches ours.
Last but by no means least, Tef has been dibbling and dabbling with a few different games. There was a spot of the Halo Wars 2 Blitz Beta over the weekend, and he also crashed through the last few missions of the Halo Wars Definitive Edition campaign, to get ready for the sequel’s release. He bragged about doing all of this in 4K, and he saw how far he could push his PC by then playing Forza Horizon 3 at 4K as well – only on medium settings and never quite reaching 60fps, but still very playable, he says.
Oh, and he played Dirt 4 yesterday.
So, now it’s your turn. What have you been playing?

Nothing major for me this week.
Played through Letter Quest to completion (all 120 stars), fired up Rocket League for a bit and, in a desperate attempt to make up for the fact that I can’t afford RE7 this month, I made a start on another play through of RE Remastered.
For some reason I’ve wanted to go back to The Division recently so I might dust off my Xbox One this evening and hop back into that :)
Tony Cawley
How odd, just today I finished collecting all the stars and all crystal stars in letter quest. Only trophy left is to spell 3000 words and I’m not sure I can be arsed with that!
Eldave0
Urrgh, that 3000 word trophy is so tedious. Only have a few crystal stars to go and I’m still well under 2000.
Not sure I can be bothered to play Endless mode /that/ long

Been playing Resident Evil 2 and 3 on PS1/3 (separate save files stored) then picked up Resident Evil 7 on launch and been playing that ever since. The VR is amazing and scary but fantastick experience. On my 5th playthrough and should have the Platinum tonight =D
Pixel_nme
Machine I tell ya machine ;)
Pixel_nme
Played a lot of Resident Evil 7 (just shy of 10hrs) was on till about 4am last night and just finished my first play through, doubt I’ll manage the plat (unlike someone I can think of with PSN ID beginning with C&D) great game though really enjoyed it,once again Monday was Golf and Steep with the chaps and Tuesday was Destiny with Forrest and heedbaw,Wednesday night got in some Battlefield 1 with the toutski and Forrest, and tonight should be GTAV with the usual lot R1M,heedbaw,Forrest in between that it’s been a little Gravity Rush 2,Titanfall 2,Overwatch and Yakuza 0 think that’s it.
Crazy_Del
C&D hmmm….. a challenger eh? Perhaps a rivalry…. I shall find out tonight and beat myself with a Platinum xD
(Thanks Pixel and I am half man and half machine ;)…. I think 0_e)
Pixel_nme
Go get em ;D
JR.
ABZU and Resident ‘Evil Dead’ 7.
ABZU = awesome. Resident ‘Evil Dead’ 7 also = awesome. Buuuuut… I really dislike invincible, patrolling enemies in RE7. Especially when all you want to do is explore the awesome environments. Overall it’s a great game so far, but I understand where all the ‘Great but flawed’ reviews are coming from.
Here we have DT trying to # Make America Great Again and Capcom trying to #Make Resident Evil Great Again. It’s such a wonderful time to be alive :)

I finally got to play The Last Guardian, and it’s beautiful. The Trico and the setting have made my draw drop several times, I’m only maybe half way through but that scene with the crumbling wooden bridge, wow!! It was definitely worth the wait, can’t wait to finish it off.
Steelhead
On holiday this week so I’m getting stuck into Diablo III Ultimate Evil Edition. Still have act 4 and the reaper of souls expansion to go. I’m soloing the game and am finding it surprisingly easy on the expert difficulty. Will have to ramp up the difficulty if I ever give it another go.
Also played a bit more Odin Sphere. Beautiful game, well suited to the vita’s OLED screen.
matthangzhou
Stardew valley. Has caused far too many late night. Awesomely addictive
DividSmythe
I got the platinums out of the awful Orc Slayer, The Little Acre and Nuke Dukem 30th anniversary edition in the last week. I also played Diablo 3 today.
Pixel_nme
Congrats on that trio of plats :)
DividSmythe
Thanks buddy. I nearly have up on Orc Slayer and Duke Nukem both are really bad games in all honesty.
TSBonyman
Still can’t get into Watch Dogs 2 after my second attempt.
Played some more Dishonored 2 and i believe i’m guaranteed a high chaos ending at this stage. Perhaps i’ll be more humane when i play as Emily..
Also tried the Last Chance Nioh trial, great to see a new area but i didn’t get much time to play it so i only managed to die about a dozen times.
A few more vain attempts at Binding of Isaac.
Tony Cawley
Really been getting into star wars Battlefront. it’s been sat in my shelf untouched for months, not sure why because now I’m playing it I’m really enjoying it.
