When EA announced a version of FIFA for Nintendo’s Switch console there were rumours that it might be based on an old PS3 version. EA’s chief competition officer, Peter Moore, has now declared that it will actually be FIFA 18 which will be released later this year, probably around September.
“Well, as we have said, we are custom-building a FIFA version for the Nintendo Switch,” said Moore, “It will be FIFA 18, and it will obviously be later this year when FIFA 18 comes out.”
However, it may not be the same as the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game, Moore simply confirming it would be “custom built version for the Nintendo Switch.

Great news, they have to custom build it so production cost will be nice and high. This sounds promising #sarcasmoff
I just don’t get why nitty had to go a different route architecture wise. I get the different hardware and controllers (okay, I personally don’t get that either) but the chip architecture is what might isolate them. This might be the only FIFA release it ever sees.

The different system architecture is 100% down to it needing to be a portable device. While there are chips from AMD and Intel that target tablets and ultraportables, there’s lots and lots of reasons why it’s ARM chipset designs in phones and tablets, and not x86.

X86 is a bloated instruction set with a lot of redundant parts only necessary for backwards compatibility (All the way back to 1978!!), and as such X86 chips suck a lot more juice and produce a lot more heat than ARM chips. Hence why intel has failed to try and get x86 processors to take off in the mobile market.
