Ghost Recon Wildlands Breaks Ubisoft Beta Record

If there’s one thing Ubisoft loves more than its public beta tests, it’s statistics and infographics about those said beta tests.

With its modern military focus, squad based co-op, and sprawling open world, Ghost Recon Wildlands was always going to attract a sizeable number of testers. In the end, it clocked a total of 6.8 million players, beating previous record holder, Tom Clancy’s The Division.

Here’s a nice little breakdown:

  1. I think that’s what you call a successful beta. I enjoyed the closed beta, didn’t go on for the open beta because I’d already made my mind up I’d be getting the game.
Looking forward to teaming up with some TSA folk for some coop.

  2. Having played the closed beta i just couldnt be bothered playing thr same content again before getting acces to the new stuff. Will be waiting if friends of mine get the game, if not, im okay waiting for a sale.

  3. 4.2 million bugs detected.

  4. I enjoyed the beta, but won’t be getting the game on release. Don’t get me wrong, I had fun playing with a friend, but it felt just like Far Cry 4 with more guns. We often felt like we were spending more time travelling between missions than actually doing them – and the missions seemed pretty easy even on the hardest difficulty. My friend and I both said it would be worth picking up maybe 6 months down the line for £15 or so.

    • To be honest, when you’ve got a capable PC you may as well just play ArmA 3. Far better squad based military shooter, and so much more in depth.

      • Depends on what you are looking to get out of it.. I was looking for The Division in the jungle, so this pretty much ticks the boxes. ArmA3 tho, I just haven’t been able to get into it.

      • True, but we were hoping it wouldn’t be quite as hardcore as Arma. Plus, I’ve got annoyed that so much content is now locked behind the Apex pay wall when the game launched with barely any content to start.

      • I didn’t know that about ArmA 3 as I never got chance to play it, just see it instead. I’m a bit of a fan of the second ArmA game though, and whilst Wildlands beta was very good, I felt the vehicle controls were a little awkward and the open world wasn’t as in depth because it boils down to a straight forward formula after a few hours.

Wildlands is less hardcore though, agreed, but when Gazza mentioned the missions were easy it reminded me how much I wanted something more technical to the gameplay and shooting that approached ArmA 2 territory.
