MotoGP 17’s Managerial Career Mode Revealed

MotoGP is branching into a new area of motorsport, with a new Managerial Career mode. Where the series is best known for its racing on two wheels, you can now take on the role of team manager, trying to juggle all the team’s resources to achieve success.

You will have to head out on track yourself, it seems, but you’ll hire up to five other riders to race in various categories alongside you. You’ll also have to wrangle sponsors to earn your team more money, invest that money in better bikes, set up your R&D department to boost that performance further, and hire staff across ten different departments, from nutritionists and athletic preparation to sports management and more.

There’s no new trailer or screenshot should depicting this new mode just yet, but it won’t be too long until we see more. It sounds like a big change of pace for the series and should add plenty of layers to the career mode when. Alas, this game does not seem to take advantage of Milestone’s recently announced contract to use Unreal Engine 4, which is the case for MXGP 3 and Gravel.

MotoGP 17 releases for PS4, Xbox One and PC on 15th June.

  1. A managerial mode sounds like the best thing ever.

I want to like bike games, but seeing as it’s hard – for me at least – to not “flap” left and right and keep turning smooth, it just looks very odd and feels a bit rubbish.

    • Best thing ever – if done correctly.
There’s been quite a few racing games that have included a managerial mode but not many get it spot on. One of the best I’ve played was a pc game that started with you racing hatchbacks and the goal was to have a top team racing Dodge Vipers. Can’t remember it’s name but it was out in the early 90’s.

      • That sounds ace! Agreed – as (and I could be wrong here) racing games don’t seem to get the same level of audience like football games they probably don’t have the same resources (human and financial) to make a decent one. Hopefully it can start simple and be built on with each instalment!

  2. Ooh, Valentino Rossi’s Retirement Plan Simulator.. Sounds cool :)
