That Creative Assembly and Sega are following up on last year’s hit Total War: Warhammer so soon might have put a few noses out of joint, but given the prices of their DLC packs up until now, and the amount of new and distinct content on offer in Total War: Warhammer II, I’m willing to give them a pass on this one. That conviction has only been strengthened by today’s preview video of the vast new campaign map.
The camera sweeps across two major landmasses, first exploring the High Elves’ homeland of Ulthuan and The Great Vortex that one of their two storylines seeks to stabilise after it was struck by a portentous meteor. The High Elves in this part of the world are led by Prince Tyrion, as the video shows off the imposting White Tower of Hoeth and past the Fortress Gates of Ulthuan that makes up some of the strongest defences in the world.
Head across a treacherous ocean and you find Lustria, which is a crazy hodge-podge of warring factions. Races from the Old World have set up outposts here, with rogue armies that mix all cultures together roam the jungle landscape, searching for riches. It’s here that the second High Elf Legendary Lord is found, with a plot following Arch-Mage Teclis as he leads his armies to disrupt the Lizardmen.
It’s the Lizardmen who are the dominant race here, and they seek to revitalise their Geomantic Web to enact their great plan. The Slann Mage-Priest Mazdamundi has adopted the Astromancy stance to gain greater insight into his lush surroundings, while the famed Saurus Old-Blood Kroq-Gar prepares his forces to fight the High Elves at The Fallen Gates.
As announced at E3, Total War: Warhammer 2 is coming out for Windows PC on 28th September.
