Gran Turismo Sport’s VR Mode Is At The “Very Top Of The Industry”

Suffice to say that Polyphony Digital CEO Kazunori Yamauchi is a little disappointed in PlayStation VR, it simply has not got the resolution or the power to make a VR version of Gran Turismo that he is happy with. Polyphony Digital are renowned for delay their games until every single pixel is perfect, so their quest for perfection is not new.

“With VR, we’ve done everything with the current console to make Gran Turismo VR the best it can be,” he told finder.com.au. “There was a lot of very hard development, and as a result of all the efforts that were made, the VR mode in Gran Turismo Sport is at the very top of the industry. I don’t think you will find any VR racing experience out there [as good]. Still, it’s not like we’ve reached our goal. Obviously, the hardware and devices need to evolve more, and I think VR is something we will need to look at in the long-term to see what it ultimately achieves. But in terms of the current VR, I think the best experience you will get is with the PS4 Pro and the PSVR system.”

The number of tracks that can be played in VR has not been announced, with recent hands on suggesting there will only be “a handful”. It has already been revealed that the VR mode will only allow for two cars to be on the track.

  1. That doesn’t surprise me, when it was announced that VR mode would be one on one I thought it was to get the best graphics possible. DriveClub and Rally VR were pretty good so can’t wait to see Polyphony’s efforts.
It would be great to have all tracks in VR but if not I hope there is a fair few and more could be added later.

  2. Grammar police time – “renowned for delay their games” :P
