The classic Deathmatch is the bread and butter of the first person shooter genre, and now it’s coming to Overwatch with both Free-For-All and Team Deathmatch variants. Here’s Jeff from the Overwatch team explaining why, when the game’s philosophy has always been about team play and objective-based modes, Blizzard have changed their minds.
Free-For-All will be eight players battling to be first to hit 20 kills, while Team Deathmatch will be the game’s staple 6v6 format, with the winners being the first side to 30 kills. Sneakily, Mercy resurrections will take a kill away from the other team’s total.
Deathmatch is coming soon to the Overwatch Arcade, but if you’re knee deep in the Public Test Realm on PC, you can try it out now.

It never ceases to impress me how well they do with these constant updates. I’d really really really like to know how much money the loot box system brings in for them. Surely it can’t be that much? But it has to be enough to sustain the studio while they continue to support the game.

Firstly, the game was paid and has over 30 million players, meaning they have a rather sizeable war chest. Secondly, loot boxes make serious bank when there’s that many players.
