EA and DICE are clearly targeting the esports competitive multiplayer scene with a newly announced game mode for Battlefield 1 called Incursions. It’s reminiscent of the smaller Squad Rush modes from previous games of previous games, paring it down to just 5v5 battles for close and fast games.
However, there’s still all the hallmarks of Battlefield, namely the inclusion of vehicles, but there’s also a revised scoring system making sure that every point counts, a draft mode so that you actually choose your class before the match starts.
You can join the closed alpha test by signing up at Battlefield.com, starting next month, but with no mention of when to expect a final release.
While they’re still nowhere near completing the Premium Pass of expansions, they also announced a Revolution Edition of Battlefield 1, which will bundle the main game with access to the current and forthcoming expansions. Right now that means you can get to play They Shall Not Pass, and In the Name of the Tsar releasing in September – Premium owners can play one of the maps right now – a third expansion set for December and fourth and final expansion in early 2018.
We’ll be adding trailers as and when they eventually appear.
