After a few weeks at the top, Destiny 2 has been deposed by a familiar face at the top of the UK charts as FIFA 18 released and swept into first place. Sony will be overjoyed at their own performance, grabbing 60% of the game’s sales for their platform, which rose form 53% last year, and coincides with console bundles and FIFA Legends no longer being platform exclusive.
Xbox One grabbed 37%, meaning that Switch, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sales combined for just 3% at the tills. However, we’re still bereft of the grander context of digital sales being included in these figures, meaning we don’t have the full picture. Switch could have performed stronger once digital sales are taken into account, and you’d have to expect that most if not all of the 25% decrease in FIFA sales compared to last year are made up for once digital sales are added. The game also released on a Friday, instead of the more traditional Tuesday.
Behind FIFA, Destiny 2 dropped to second while Forza Horizon 3 shot up to third. Last week’s biggest new game, Project Cars 2, dropped from second to seventh. A surprise appearance is Halo 5: Guardians in 11th, which was tied into bundles with FIFA last week.
