Mantis Burn Racing Switch Version To Have Cross-Play With Xbox One & PC

The latest indie developer to jump on the cross-network multiplayer bandwagon, VooFoo Studios have announced that the upcoming Nintendo Switch release of Mantis Burn Racing will have cross-play with Xbox One and PC.

Obviously, PlayStation is excluded from this particular party, but Mantis Burn Racing is exactly the kind of game that will benefit from this kind of openness, helping to take a smaller indie racing game and hopefully extend the longevity of its multiplayer by combining three platforms together in this way. At the same time, given the staggered release across platforms, this game is already in its twilight to say the least as an online multiplayer game.

It’s probably best to expect this to be more of a local multiplayer game. To that end, the studio have said that the game will crank out its top down racing at 60fps in both handheld and docked mode, with a variable frame rate for two player split-screen, and a locked 30fps when you go for 3 or 4 player split-screen. That’s pretty handy, when stacked up against the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game.

Mark Williams, Technology Director at VooFoo Studios said, “We’ve been spending a lot of time getting to grips with the capabilities of the Switch – we’ve learnt a lot by digging deeper into the hardware. The Switch’s performance analysis tools have allowed us to understand where frame rate improvements could be made and we’re really pleased to have the game running at a consistently smooth 60fps – we were determined to make the Switch version the best it can be.”
