Gran Turismo Sport Weekly Maintenance Scheduled For Every Wednesday

As GT Sport’s release marks a new direction for the series, it’s dragging long time fans into the modern day realities of gaming with a focus on online racing and competition. As good as that can be, this also means that we get to savour the delights of server downtime, which for GT Sport will take place every Wednesday for the foreseeable future – Polyphony note that the time is subject to change.

This will take place at 4:00-6:00 UTC (GMT). That equates to:

  • 6:00-8:00 CEST
  • 5:00-7:00 BST (British Summer Time)
  • 0:00-2:00 EDT
  • 21:00-23:00 (Tuesday) PDT

Thankfully for UK gamers, it’s coming at a reasonably good time, early in the morning, but after years of poorly timed PSN maintenance for Europeans, we can certainly sympathise with our American cousins on the Pacific Coast.

As we’ve covered previously, while you can turn the game on and race in Arcade mode during this time, you need to be online in order to actually save your progress – thankfully, this pain is eased by PS4’s Rest Mode and being able to save once the servers come online – and you’re also restricted from being able to play any of the events and challenges in the game’s single player Campaign.

For details of scheduled downtime and the hiccups in service that have occurred under the load and demand of the game’s launch week, you can find the news feed in game or here on the Gran Turismo website.

  1. Every Wednesday for the foreseeable future, seems a bit obsessive to me but at least it’s a good time for us here.

    • That’s our interpretation of the minimal update they provided. They say “every”, but then also that times are subject to change, so it’s essentially a general indication of what they think they need to do, and then they can scale maintenance down or up as necessary.

      • As long as they keep to the time of day above it’s fine with me.

  2. Very impressed. First time I’ve ever known it not be a problem.

  3. I wonder what “maintenance” actually means in the land of online gaming servers

  4. Seems a bit mad, it’s probably a slight mis-translation from Japanese. Maybe they mean than when there is maintenance, it will be at those times on a Wednesday, as oppose to it being every single Wednesday.
