Atari has announced that its upcoming console the Ataribox will be available to pre-order from December 14th, which is this upcoming Thursday. A price point hasn’t been shared but the company has stated that early supporters will be eligible for a discount, though those will be extremely limited in quantity.
Atari has been quite tight lipped about the Ataribox though we know it will play classic and some current games, though many of those will be indie titles. The system itself will run on Open Linux OS, and will give the option to allow people to stream games to the console. The machine will also feature a HDMI port, 4 USB slots, and an SD card slot.

I wish they would give out the technical info about what’s under the skin.

Terrible launch date. Worse could be even nearer to Christmas or even just a touch afterwards. Wow. :-\

They’re going about it a strange way. Preorder date given before launch date or price and specs reveal?

Depends on what the classic games will be. If they’re just the usual games they port to every system they possibly can then I’ll pass. But with games like Turrican, Dungeon Master, Captive, Barbarian, etc, I would be interested.
