Cult Indie Game Yume Nikki To Get A Follow Up, Dream Diary, This February

After nearly 14 years an official follow up to the esoteric indie exploration game Yume Nikki is going to be released. Yume Nikki: Dream Diary is a new video game set in the same twisted dreamscape as the original freeware release.

A few days ago a bizarre 8 minute teaser video for the game was released, showing little more than indecipherable imagery and a logo for the project.

The game will launch on February 23rd for $19.99 and will include support for English, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish language options. The original game is described as a”divisively controversial work among fans” and Kadokawa Games has stated that Kikiyama, the mysterious creators of the first Yume Nikki, are involved with the new project.

The art and screenshots show off the drowsy protagonist Madotsuki, along with bevy of other characters familiar to those who have played the previous game. It also shows the game has transitioned from 2D to 3D, along with some rather bizarre sexy ant creatures which are re-imagined versions of unused artwork from the original game.

I'm a writer, voice actor, and 3D artist living la vida loca in New York City. I'm into a pretty wide variety of games, and shows, and films, and music, and comics and anime. Anime and video games are my biggest vice, though, so feel free to talk to me about those. Bury me with my money.

  1. “bizarre sexy ant creature” was added in editing and does not reflect me or my tastes as they relate to the realm of anthropomorphic ants in any way
