H1Z1: Battle Royale Racks Up Over 4.5 Million PS4 Players

H1Z1 seems to be a surprise hit with PlayStation owners with over 4.5 million people playing the open beta.  Daybreak celebrated the milestone by giving everyone the Blue Barbed Hellfire 4-6 skin, and unlocking duos mode which lets you play as a team of two.

The beta launch was a little rocky with server problems and power cuts but seems to have stabilised quickly, I was playing it quite a lot over the weekend and was finding matches straight away.

If you haven’t played the game it’s a Battle Royale title where you can play solo, with a friend, or in a team of five, in a battle to the death. There’s no crafting or base building but there are vehicles, and unlike Fortnite you won’t get wiped out two seconds after you land.

It does look utterly terrible, we’re talking low end PS3 graphics, but the map is a decent size and most importantly the gun-play is snappy and accurate. I much prefer it to Fortnite, and appears quite a few other people do as well. You can download the PS4 beta here.

In other numbers news, Nioh, the RPG from Team Ninja, has sold over two million copies world wide.

  1. It just goes to show the massive hunger there is right now for a realistic Battle Royale. Fortnite too cartoony for me, H1Z1 too clunky, though it is my preference of the 2 right now.

The new CoD will absolutely smash it I reckon, looking forward to that.

  2. I was gonna give it a try, but after watching a video of it decided not to bother. It looks like fortnite and pubg had a baby on PS3.

Not surprised PS4 players are pouring over it though.

  3. I much prefer it to Fortnite as well. It’s true though, the graphics are bad, no denying that. If you’ve got a few friends to team up with, I’d say it’s well worth a try.
